There's a place in northern most California called the Lava Beds National Park. This picture is of Gillams camp on the south-west end of Tulelake. I will try to post a link about the war later....the Modoc War was famous for the amount of U.S. troops held at bay by a tiny number of Modoc Indians. I would LOVE to be able to detect in the park, unfettered!!
