I'm Back With A Tale Of The Beach
I haven't posted for awhile because I've been pretty busy getting things ready for deer season, and playing catch up. So, last Thursday I packed up and headed for the coast down by Corpus Christi for some surf and beach hunting. I get down there and start see some of my old friends who decide to keep me up BBQing and drinking beer till late into the evening. Friday morning came around, and not feeling the best in the west, headed to the beach to meet low tide. Well, the water was super clear, the wind was calm, and the water was fairly warm. I started hunting out between the 2nd and 3rd sand bar in the hardpack, only finding a few bottle caps, and a few unknown pieces. About that time I started to head up into shallower water, a park ranger hollered at me to come in. Almost instantly I noticed it was one of my great friends I hadn't seen in a few years. He had become one of the head honchos over patrolling the beach. For about the next 2 hours we spent reminiscing over the last few years. He told me to load up my stuff and follow him down the beach aways. We got to this vacant patch of sand, he pulled out a shovel and told me to start digging in this one spot. The first thing I noticed was there were coins in the scoops I was pulling out. Me more scoops, the more coins. We only went down about 2 to 2 1/2 feet because he didn't want to get seen digging big holes in the beach, and the coins were still all i the hole. Come to find out, they had just town down some showers and moved them to a different part of the beach, and this one was one of about 6 showeres that were there. All in all, in just a short time, we pulled out $46.75 in quarters, and a bunch of smaller change. This is where he comes to get the money he uses to wash his truck, but it keeps getting deeper in the sand. Most of it was on the verge where a detector would not have detected it, most of the coins were black, or at least pretty dark from the salt and sand. After that, there were more friends and BBQ's to do, and the rest of the week I never made it back on the beach. It makes you wonder though, how many more of those honey holes are along the beach. Not only the ones from today, but even the ones from days gone by....that are just out of reach of all these detectors. It really showed me, most importantly, how FAST coins will sink in the sand on the beach.
It as a great trip. A learning one, and it won't be long before I'll be back.

I couldn't imagine finding that many coins in a day!
