My grandson found this unique item near a Kentucky creek and we are trying to determine authenticity. The notches at the end seem fairly defined. After reading some other articles I'd say we've ruled out a stone moccasins last. Do you think this could have been a tool? Any ideas guys? Thanks for any comments.

Could have been part of a ceremonial piece, a piece of a old stone statue, or just a piece of natural creek rock. It’s hard to see the flat portion being so flat, and then the area where looks like toes. I don’t think it’s a tool, but could be something very old.

It could have been used as a chopping tool, but that flat side has me stumped.

Due to the size my best guess is someone started to make a large ax or such and gave up.

Welcome to Tnet from Toronto Viers! :hello:
I can only hope one day to have a grand-child bring me Native American artifacts they find.

Good advice from vpnavy above, you may also want to re-post your thread here... North American Indian Artifacts

Where I grew up there was a creek bed that was used as a dumping spot for stone and brick of houses torn down in the area. The carvings and wear on the old marble and stone evidenced it was from the civil war era give or take a decade or two. I used to find interesting stones like this and it brings back memories to me.

My guess is it could be foot off an old statue that got broke and dumped at some point somewhere upstream.

Which is why I made the comment I made about it possibly being part of a old sculpture. I also had the similar experience with a old dump site in a creek, and found one or two similar to these.
