Well, It's been a while since I posted anything here... I've not been out to detect in months.

On the way I hit an ole' cemetery and took some pictures before hitting the detecting fields. I've been here before and it's a great place to reflect on Montana's history, maybe find some cactus fruits to snack on, and pay a little respect to the pioneers and soldiers that helped make western expansion
a reality.

After taking a few pictures and saying a few "thank you"s I left to find some treasure.

Which didn't really work out. I found the usual pocketful-o-nails & roofing tin, some scrap iron stove parts and lots of horribly corroded iron el-trash-o. My only keepers were this clothing/knapsack rivet, a domed gold gilted plain button (civilian), and the marble (eyeballed) seen below.

It hit 101 degrees and I got the hell outta there...

I'm going to post this marble in the "What Is It" forum to find out more about it... who was that guy who knew everything about marbles that used to post here? I don't remember...

Thanks for looking at my meager findings... Hope the pics look okay.

Very moving pictures,I was just at Little Big Horn last weekend and was moved by the battle site and the big national cemetery . I think Custer sure got a lot of people killed that day.

Hey Big Jim, welcome back.
Great post & pix. That marble is so cool. Try "DUFFYTRASH" for the marble info. He really knows his marbles.
I remember about 5 or 6 months ago you posted a very old house out in the middle of nowhere with some beautiful scenery. Have you detected it yet?
Good to hear from you,
MM

Yes, wood. They were set there at the grave to replace the original wooden markers, and have been replaced and repainted several times by some caring and dedicated folks... they are at the original grave, but are not original markers.

Yea... did'nt see no wolves today... LOL

hey jim that there is a bennington marble..a better one with the multi color...the "eyes" on it were made by the mibs touchin each other during the salt glazing..probably made in germany in the mid to late 1800s...some were made in akron ohio, but by then the glass marble industry was beginnin...nice antique marble but not to valuable maybe 2-5$ for the fancies..bigger the better..that one looks to be less than 3/4 inch...ive seen em 1-3/8 plus...

Duffy! I did'nt even have to go look for you! Thanks...

It's a 3/4"er. It actually has two eyes, I was wondering about them. I believe it to be lost between 1866 and 1910. The marble is NOT perfectly round and I just think it's awesome. While the value thing is cool - I have no intention of getting rid of it... it's one of my favorite finds from this area. Thanks for your help wih identifying it and letting me know more!

nice Pictures & finds Jim.

Your Marble looks the same color as the
"Winner" Gumballs we would sometimes get
out of gumball machines as a kid.
of course unless it's petrified it's not.

Then again, when we would try &
chew the Winner instead of turning it in
they tasted petrafied :P

The graves are WAY COOL...I dunno what it is bout old graves but they are just so dang interesting...

Glad you had fun and try to stay cool...

Nick

Hiya Nick, Yeapers... suppossed to be over 100 degrees all week, we'll see.

It's one of the few grave yards I can go to that still have the piles of stones over the grave... it's both interesting and creepy cause the animals have dug holes all over the place there. :o The prickley pear fruits are super tasty there...

Thanks for stopping by... the Harley emblem is still stuck where it belongs! ;D

great job on the pics! That marble is very cool! :D The heat....about the same here lately and I don't spend a lot of time out in it if I don't have to so I definitely understand getting out of there! Thanks for sharing the trip with us though!

Thanks Cyn... I was hoping for my usual bucket-o-goodies but still had a nice day of swinging.
