Is this a Rev. war shoulder belt plate ?

I found this with stuff dating back to the time the house was built in the mid 1700's all the way through the civil war.

I'm leaning towards brass horse blinker. I would have expected some engraving if used for shoulder plate.

It's already ID'ed

It's a plate for leather covered wooden trunk.

If it went on leather whats stopping it going on a leather horse blinker as well?

The point is who cares. It's not a belt plate.

You guy's standards are much higher than most detectorist The better finds the higher standards.

Just amazes me that these plates appear frequent on the net and apparently being sold at good prices via an incorrect ID

Yeah but these sites gives the appearance that their expertise is a narrowed down area of military relics.

As detectorists reckon we're more likely to dig the relics than actually buying them
