I found this jar of bits of metal amongst my grandfathers things. My first thought was copper, but it doesn't smell like copper and isn't oxidized at all. What do you all think? Could it be gold? What would be the easiest way to test it?
Brass and copper weight about half as much as gold. Because they are all classified to about .125" I would tend to believe it is not gold. But this is my amateur opinion !

Either get a test kit or go to a jewelry store and have them check. It's possible what you have is sprue trimmings from gold casting? Let us know what you find out. HH

What does the jar with material weigh as is? If you have any sort of reasonable scale you can figure this out in a few minutes, no guess work. Want me to run it down?
