Hey everyone, I'm Olivia from Western MA and I just got my first metal detector for Christmas. The ground is currently too frozen to use it so I figured I'd just gain as much info as I can before I can go out. My detector is a Garrett Ace 250 and the only other detector I've used was a crappy old bounty hunter. I collect coins and love history so I figured metal detecting is perfect. Any advice would be great thanks!

Hello and welcome.

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Massachusetts for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Congrats on the MD Olivia and welcome to the forum!

Congrats on you new machine Olivia! The Ace 250 is a VERY GOOD stick, it will do well for you. Take the time to really get to know it, and what it tells you. Youll find good stuff. Finding good areas to hunt is really the trick.
Happy hunting!

Hello from Tennessee, and Welcome to the site.

I've been using the Ace 250 for a while now, I can tell you,it will serve well. Piece of advice: On your days when the ground is froze, use that time to bench test the machine by waving different objects in front of the coil, and watch how they ID/Read on the display and try to memorize the tones it sets off on each object. Do this and read the manual over and over, then you will have a great start on the learning curve, before you even get to go out and use it.
For the Bench Test, get yourself various coins, bottle cap,a pull tab,a nail,an all lead fishing sinker, a gold wedding band or necklace. Have fun ...

greetings. I bought my wife a Garrett Ace machine and I have been using it here and I am amazed at how simple it operates and also how good it really is. Amazing for the money. Good Choice. There are zillions of youtube videos on your detector ...watch them Garrett Ace - YouTube

The ace is a great coin finder...
