Just ordered my new Excaliber 800

This will be my first Minelab detector so I am open to advice. Any suggestions on settings or things I should be concerned with will greatly be appreciated. I plan on using it mostly in fresh water swimming holes.

Since it is your first Excal, I'd suggest you start out with the Sensitivity in AUTO till you get the hang of it. Then later you can move it to near 10 or 11 o'clock. Volume all the way up, Discrimination can be set at 1, since it won't find iron anyway. You won't even need Pinpoint in the water.

Sweep a little slower than you normally would lets the circuitry work on analyzing the ground.

Sandman has it right on the money. That would be where I would set it if I were just starting out. Good luck with your Minelab. I wouldn't trade mine for anything...
