well saidBreezie said:Every time I hear stories like this, it makes me ill. How about the loud motorcycles, cars, trucks, children, barking dogs, the drunks singing 50 verses of Brown Eyed Girl, the high school guys playing football, and every other sound you find in a FREE PUBLIC PARK/CAMPGROUND! Geeeez, people need to get a life, and leave ours alone!I can't tell you how many times I've had the same problem. . . .everything from them calling the police to me being cussed out.
I'm a polite person, and respect others & property, and I want the same in return. Actually no one would ever know I'm MD unless you saw me, but it seems other groups get more respect than Metal Detectorist. I've been digging on the beach and have had children to fall on their knees and start digging the hole with their hands, and the parents look and laugh. I've had adults to do the same thing. Just last week(after Hurricane Irene hunt at the beach) I had man to stoop over the hole, saw a quarter, and said, 'hey, look what I found.' He put it in his pocket and got a good laugh with all of his beer drinking buddies.
So, I think both groups, the MD and the non-MD 'claim' to be equally annoyed, but in my opinion, I think the people we annoy are not as annoyed as they are somewhat jealous of what they 'think' we are finding. It's as if we have a pouch full of Rolex watches, diamond rings, and gold coins, and they don't. Breezie
there wuz kids running around screamingHunthicks said:I agree the last thing you need to do is make people upset towards metal detecting. Was the handful of change really worth getting kicked out because you didn't, or couldn't use headphones? Doesn't seem like it to me.
People don't respect other people these days - while you hear harmless beeping, it may be annoying as can be to another. Sure, most of us ignore the things that bother us but when it comes to paying to camp, I can understand the frustration. Personally I don't camp at campgrounds, people and their children annoy me when I'm trying to relax. I prefer the sound of the ocean and nature waking me up.![]()

sounds like a majorityCMDiamonddawg said:Hunt early ..... Tourists or campers arrive in beach area , I pack up my gear and leave . I also agree with the many who suggest use of headphones![]()

nope thats it they asked us to leave politely and we left that waycalisdad said:I agree with Rick as well (and if you don't there's no need to be rude about it). I've had people show up in campgrounds and fire up the generator and leave it on all day and into the night.
Somehow I don't think we heard the whole story. You don't get kicked out without being asked to be quiet first.
we had permission and wuz in the closed area.calisdad said:So you weren't staying there you just decided to detect there.
When I'm at a CG I enjoy the same expectation of privacy as I do at home. I rented the space much like a person rents a home. The moment its rented it's not public property anymore.

Thanks FrankCoilFisher said:Yeah, I always carry a set of phones in the car in case it gets crowded.
I like using no phones, and I can see someone saying that.
As harsh as it sounds, the noise can get annoying to some people I guess, and it attracts eyes and bystanders.
Stinks though for you.
Nice haul.
(I wonder if you can get those cheesy airline phones to plug in if you needed them in a pinch?)

Sometime back I had a finch or a warbler or some little bird nearby in a park I was detecting, bird starting mimicking my old 1235X. I told the park guy to get rid of the bird. Couldn't tell if it was my machine or the bird after awhile. He yelled at the bird. Good guy!
Any ranger looking for reason to throw someone like me out is looking the wrong way.
thanks fur savin meivan salis said:lucky you for not marrying my sister --( besides she is already married) --- you really wouldn't like her --trust me
Yes Andi.g-olden years said:Here's my 2 cents worth (2 of the toasted ones from dig today, lol) --- Anyone who was disturbed by the noise from your headphones should have had the COURTESY to ask you personally to please turn them off or detect elsewhere! Only if you refused should they have talked to the ranger. I have very sharp hearing so am more easily put off by loud noise, but I would never report someone without speaking with him first. Sorry about your busted machine too! Andi
