Karen & I watched and enjoyed all three. I DID NOT like the nearly black and white attempt to make it older but got used to it. Give me color and HD anytime.

I want to see real miners, in real situations, finding or failing to find gold in real time! No more bs shows with innane drama to try to grab the Jerry Springer TV crowds. Ok, I'm done ranting. :goldpan:
Its a made for t.v. series, About people during the Klondike Gold Rush...with some real Places and real people thrown in for historical connection. It was 117 years ago....bunch of mounds and rust piles in the Black Spruce now.....closest you can get to seeing what it was like other than reading a book. Or looking at rare pictures. I like it for the same reason I like movies like White Fang and Pale Rider even if the Mining is in the background... I love to see those big sluice boxes, windlass's and DYNAMITE!!!!!!!!!!! Wall tents mud and wood smoke..........I love it.....Drama of course....as far as a T.V. series goes...its Genre is Drama so it should be expected. Crazy stuff happened during that and all rushes...Look up a guy by the name of "Soapy" Smith

I don't think was an attempt to make it look "old", it was supposed to be filmed largely in dark, cloudy weather and inside places lit only by lamps and candles. Those are dark and dim places and it would look very strange to have a lamp-lit room as bright as a sunny day.

I was really disappointed with it. I fast forwarded through a lot of it. Too bad as I had really looked forward to it.

Going to Dawson is still on the bucket list.

I've gone way past it, all the way to Nome which was the next big rush north, but Dawson and the Klondike are still on the list. So, the made for TV movie was a nice chance to see the Chilkoot pass with the long line of struggling miners, the frozen lakes, the dog sled footage, the steamers, the tossed together look of the camps, the jumble of buildings from the business section, and above all, the unbridled frenzy that was such a passionate part of the gold rush.

There were indeed some accurate historical portrayals, and there was a bunch of made for TV nonsense as well, but the visual impact of that wild land swarming with gold seekers and fortune hunters of every variety is what will stay with me.

All the best,

Lanny

I liked the series, portrayed close to how life really was during those times in the camps. We went thru Dawson City about 5 years ago on our 2 month rv trip. We put the rv on a barge to get across the river at Dawson and then up the top of the World road on top , it seemed , of the mountains into Alaska. Now I want to read the book by Gray called Gold Diggers which the series was based on.

Anyone following the show on Discovery?
I like it, plus you get to enter a drawing for $50k each night.

Quote:Some of the gold looks like painted rocks but there is no mistake about the nugget they keep showing.story?

Yes-In one scene he has bars of gold and when he picked them up in a bag,the bars pinged..I don't think gold pings..Although I wouldn't know for sure since I never owned a bar much less many bars.I really liked the show, however,I hated the ending..I think it was based on a true story?

I really enjoyed it. I think they missed out on showing the actual mining. There were only a very limited shots of gold. The story line was good, but again , they missed out on the mining. I would have thought it would have been better if a porn producer had shot it. Could have gotten by with a weak story line and lots of money shots!! Show me the gold!!

well it sure beat watching another repeat of the Waltons!

Or Toad (Oh I met Todd) can't figure out what went wrong after having millions of dollars of equipment in the jungle and can't find his ass from a hole in the ground.

Hey, he has 6 diamonds now. And, according to him, he is the only person who owns a diamond mine and a gold mine at the same time. (Really Todd?) Seriously, though, I think I could have taken 5k worth of equipment and fuel down there and got more gold than he has so far.

I liked it. Don't think showing a lot of gold in the movie was really necessary. Would cost quite a bit for them to buy gold just to show. Unless they painted rocks. Good story. I bet the next one they make will be about the Nome gold rush. Kind of suggested it towards the end when everyone said they were heading over there.

And, I would watch.

I didn't care for it much, Me and Bud had a hard time hearing it, the sound was muffled. And I didn't want to wait six hours to find out who killed Bill's partner.

I liked the series...laughed pretty hard at the guy taking multiple dumps and hiding the gold amongst all the logs...lol!!

I finally watched the whole thing over the weekend. Not bad, much more entertaining than watching the Hoffmans lose their as$es, and not nearly as much drama! It crazy to think of the times, an a powerful woman like Belinda died as a house keeper...

I was thinking the same thing about Belinda...
