With my knees, I can't do without them. I bought a set of Husky brand at Home Depot for about $20 and have not been happy with them because they won't stay in place.....I have to pull them up every time I kneel and they tend to move if I change position while kneeling. The next set will be better, I hope.

Maybe some duct tape? Hmmm, that may be worth a try...just a wrap at the bottom of the pad should keep it from slipping down and from shifting while kneeling. I'll report back.

If you wear them over trousers/pants then they're always going to slip around because your knees don't have velcro on them to grip the material!
Making them tight enough not to move too much will usually cut off blood circulation over time,and very quickly the minute you kneel down!
It's just one of those things you have to deal with i'm afraid. I use a hard plastic pair from a "street hockey" set. You put them on over your foot and pull them up to the knee, they have a soft wide elastic backing to hold them firm and then velcro straps to tighten them further. They're good,but as i said, once your pants move around...so will the pads!

I use the sports knee pads made by Franklin. They are one piece and stay in place. Only problem is you have to take your shoe off before putting on. So now I just put it on when I get dressed. If it is hot out and I am wearing shorts I just wear it loose around my ankle and pull it up when I get ready to hunt. I only wear on my right knee as I just kneel down on one knee.

I Use these from Home Depot

I Forgot the cost.
Been Many Many Years since I Bought them.

Only problem the straps wear out,
the Pads will last forever

Take it from an old fart !!! Get the kind with two straps, like Jeff recommended. They stay in place pretty good. Got mine @Lowes Home Imp. They are black in color and I think they were about $15 American. HH Gene

After kneeling on a piece of broken pottery when I first started detecting I soon bought a pair of knee pads. I bought a really cheap pair at first , and they did cut off the circulation when I knelt down. Then I bought a pair of "Rolson" gel filled elasticated kneepads, they are pure luxury. They don't slip out of place nor cut off the circulation. I don't know if you can get them in the States, but there must be something similar. Mine cost £7.00, and after nearly 2 years detecting they are still like new.

Mine look a lot like the Rolson pads that hammered posted, however, mine do NOT stay in place very well, at all. Like T-hound, I usually only kneel on my right. The pads Jeff posted look pretty good, but, the straps leave a lot to be desired.

dogpound, let us know how the pads you linked to work out. The wide bands on those look like they might prevent slipping down while walking or shifting out of place when kneeling.


Edit: hammered, the Rolson brand appears to be available in the the U.K. only. Shipping might make them costly.

Sometimes I carry a hard foam mat as I detect and use it if I need to kneel. I saw my neighbor use one as they tend to their garden, a small piece is all I need. I also use the knee pads but as most people agree, they tend to move around...good luck
