Nice wide knife. Tell your friend I said congrats on a nice find.

Holy Moly! That baby is a beauty. If your friend doesn't want it, tell him that I know for sure that I could find a new home for It. :icon_scratch:

Wow. The edge looks like a razor. Beautiful piece.

Happy Birthday Steve !

That is a thing of beauty! The patina looks like what we get in Florida.

Nice. That looks a little older than the stuff you normally find, any idea on type?

I'd shave with it, that is, if I shaved...lol
Thats a great find!! Thanks for sharing it Larson and give my congrats to your friend.

Gorgeous!!!!!! Love that flaking!!!!!

Hello,
That's a pretty nice find. Your friend did well. Looks like it had been exposed on the chalky looking side for a very long time.

Is the base ground down Steve? I will go out on a limb and ask if you think it might be a Cow House?

actually what you are calling the base is the actual cortex of the piece and would be the non working end of the blade which was probably hafted sideways onto a slotted buffalo rib handle
it appears to have been the striking platform of the blank used to make it
i first thought it was broke off on that end but can see it isn't

Nice big ole piece of KRF

Nice backed-knife. Is one edge of it dulled? A lot of them are (for mounting in rib or holding in hand). They were used by all cultures throughout the U.S. but are probably found most frequently on the High Plains, made by Shoshonean groups. Many collectors refer to the hand-held knives generically as Squaw Knives, but that's misleading.
