This measures 1 1/4” across and weighs 16 grams. Pewter or lead I think. Help is greatly appreciated.
Yes it could be brass. Heavy for its size.Pewter or lead...i think means it could possibly be brass...at least that's what it looks like from here
a close match for sureHere a a few similar, but are reproductions from Hanover brass. Yours has some patina on it, so it may be an older original one, someone here should know.at least you have an idea what it would have looked like. View attachment 2038699 View attachment 2038700
Well to some degree i agree... but... It is THE anchor... not just an anchor.I think it is better to do a bit more research before a overhopeful attribution.....I hope it is a rare one but these naval themed fouled anchor motifs have been popular on both military and civilian buckles and buttons.....Perhaps someone will nail it down with a for sure answer. No offence to Arcs theories though.
I will definitely hunt that field site again after the harvest.Definitely a broken buckle tongue. The green patina says "brass". Naval/military, but might be private purchase militia or cadet related, as well as government issue. Nice find, I bet the rest of it is in the same spot.....
