Was checking out the low tide today and saw this big ingot under about a half foot of water.

"A silver ingot!" I thought, "Big enough to be worth at least $1k!" Alas I picked it up and it was stamped "LEAD" but it has a serial number and everything as if it was a bar of precious metal. Still had to be worth a small pittance at least.

cool and interesting as to how it got there. That would be one huge fishing weight:laughing7: maybe it was a dive weight that was lost, maybe one that slid into a holder.

Bar solder which is melted on a pot for soldering cast iron pipes. Pack the joint with oakum, use the dipper to flow the solder around the joint.

Started with a Minelab xterra 505. Then Equinox 600 with stock coil, xl coil and sinper coil depending on circumstances. Now use a manticore.

Thats awesome but do not let it fall on your laptop computer(personal experience here, lead ingots make bad wall hangers). Congrats!

I think my heart would have skipped a beat too.

The scrap price for lead here is around £1/kilo. What some folks call ‘pre-atomic’ lead might sell for as much as £17/kilo. More properly called ‘low background’ lead or ‘virgin’ lead, the most valuable is not just pre-atomic, but also that which has been unexposed and is centuries-old such that most of its natural isotopic radioactivity has decayed (Pb has a half-life of 22.3 years). Shipwrecks are an ideal source but things like old sewer pipes too.
