No matter how long I hunt, I am always trying to learn something new.
Today I decided to just pick a park at random, but one where I'd never been before. That way, everything is new.
Well, the first hole I dug surprised me no end! I had been fighting some very, dry, hard ground mostly. When I prepared to put my weight into the first cut, (and note: I dig on my knees with a 12 inch digger), I almost planted my nose right into the ground!!! The knife went in like the proverbial hot knife through butter! LOL
I learned that ground is different in different places!
I said oh boy, whatever is in this ground is going to be very, very deep!!!
Anyway, after a few holes, I knew this was the rule and not an exception here. I felt like a fish out of water. It took me a while to figure out that this deeper ground also meant different VDI readings. The deeper the target the stranger they become. I hadn't realized just how lazy I had become by searching the same type ground all the time. I actually said, 60, can slaw, 45, foil, etc. Until I figured out that what I'd learned didn't necessarily apply, here.
The day turned out fairly well but, only after I stopped and rethought my approach.
Here's the overall:

Once I figured it out, I found these whole wheat toasts at near to 9 inches!

I had skipped over this one as it was only ringing up at 42 at it's best. VERY iffy signal. Dug anyway.

Glad I did.

Even a ring!! Costume, of course, but still!

This was originally at about 8 inches before I moved it. Sounded just like a weak penny signal to me.

Glad I dug this one too!

This one, I owe to the fact that I wasn't so sure about my targets anymore. It caused me to
question this very pull tab sounding, surface hit. I was pretty sure it was foil as I couldn't find it in the plug.
But, then, there it was, tiny as ever!
All I can say is, pay attention to what your conditions are and then to what the detector is trying to tell you.

It says 925 on the back but it has been gold plated. I can see spots where it's come off.
It is constructed very, very well! Even my ersatz diamond detector thinks the little stones are real and didn't
completely rule out the big one.
A fine day! Even if I do say so myself.
Thanks for peeking!
