For some it's the only PALEO time frame pieces that they will ever have. They are the uniface blades! Some are crude and other's are simply BEAUTIFUL. I wood like to see some of the fellow T-Netter's fav's.. This is just one of mine and it's the material that makes it for me. I've never seen or found for that fact anything like it. I just call it tiger striped. The clear parts you can actually see letters from a newspaper threw. Hope you like and can't wait to see everyone's. THANX.. HH

I dont know much about native american artifacts but how do you guys tell the reals from the fakes? Im asking because i see them at the flea markets with claims of being found in the carolinas n such but im afraid to buy them,They could be a fake or something.Any way to tell the real thing from a fake? All info will be greatly appreciated!!

HH John

If it was done by a good knapper it is tough to tell. I know the type of lithics in my area and the types. So for me I can look at them and know they are different and then I take a closer look. If repro is in that pile there is usually more than one just like it. Kinda of a stamped mold. But they do try to mix them up sometimes. The texture is usually off also if it has been soaked in something to make them look old. I have some real ones for sale.

Maybe not my favorite flake knife, but with the crystal inclusion, great material, and just having found it last year on a new site I found, thought I'd share this piece.

It's all guess work for that matter. Even if diggin in a shelter and found at the same depth as paleo does'nt mean it is. You don't see many woodland uniface scrapers because by that time their skills had increased 10 fold. Without rad carb testing it's hard to know.

Sorry, but I don't think this is true. I have a site that is late Archaic to Mississippian and have found many uniface scrapers through out the midden and in the rock shelters on my land. I haven't found any artifacts that are even close to Paleo.

Still does'nt mean it's not paleo, just because you hav'nt found a clovis. Without testin, one will never know!! HH

I have found over 50 points on my property and they are all archaic , woodland and Mississipian. So the 100 scrapers I've found are Paleo? I'm saying they made scrapers in the periods you said they stopped.

Not sayin they stop but did'nt used as much.

Here's one I found years ago I'd consider it Archaic being I found a small archaic point with it.

@ picaway its about time you posted some of yours. Id like to see you post some when you do a hunt in your own thread sometime.

Awesome finds! Could you enlighten me on the 6th photo. I am curious to know what material was used to create the artifact.
I'm still learning. Very intriguing. Thank you - Kat

Kat the end scrapers? What ever cherts or flint was common in your area.Lot of them are made from the reduction flakes off cores. They utilized everything. It could quickly become and expedient and then expendable tool after use.
