LLK & Dad swinging in the snake den!!!!
Took LLK to a potential spot last night. What a crazy time we had!!!! This is an old early to mid 1800's house site, the house collapsed last year and is really overgrown. It is located on an old stagecoach path (road is named Old Stagecoach Road). It has now become the dump site for the area. The house sits about 20 feet lower than the dirt road. I climbed down first, made LLK stay on the road by the truck. Located the stone walk to the front of the house, and started swinging. Went about 5 feet got a faint signal, dug my plug, 6" down I found a 1939 Wheat Cent. Looked up and was face to face with a 2 1/2 foot long garter snake! I dread snakes, I dislike their beady little eyes, their forked tongues, their scales, and their long slender shape, the only snake I ever saw that I liked, was a belt!!!! After a near stroke I moved to what should have been the side yard under a huge white pine tree, LLK came down to get in on the action. She got a signal and found a 1943 silver Canadian quarter (the kid is always finding Canadian coins in Pennsylvania). I spotted the old spring house and had to check it out made a few swings and got a good signal, dug the plug and out popped a 1905 Indian head cent. I herd something behind me and thought it was LLK coming over for a look, to my SURPRISE there were two eastern copperhead snakes heading right for me. Bear in mind, I am 6'-3", 275 lbs in my birthday suit. I jumped over those damn snakes, snatched LLK up under my arm (I swear she was still swinging her detector!), vaulted up the embankment, put LLK and two detectors in the bed of the truck, had a mild coronary, all in under 15 seconds!!!!! I now believe all of my artery clogging cholesterol has been broken loose. I had to throw my underwear away when I got home, but we found a few nice coins!!!! We have decided to hold off on that site until we have a good killing frost in early November.

a eastern water snakes looks alot like a copperhead to the untrained eye... if you was at the spring house they could have been water snakes....
...I had to post...Nice finds..liked the part about LLK still swinging while you snatched her up....keep up the good work and stay safe...
