Looking for auther or title of a book georgia and alabama

I read somewhere about a prospector that checked all the sites in Georgia and Alabama for gold. I'm looking for the title or the author.I thought for sure I saw it mentioned in a previous thread! I can't seem to find it again, If it was even here that it was mentioned!
