Hi all , last nite went to a spot that soley dates around the Great Depression era.I on the hunt for what is considered rare Australian coppers.I have been hunting along time but have only one.But i still need 1923 half-penny and 1930 penny.I would have little or no chance but i think i,m looking in the spot.

i have never been a random hunter and use as much info i can aquire before i hunt.Location has be right as i have a lack of population and history around here only dates to 1830.

I tried a site that was active during the great Depression. Many poeple who had no ware to live or had work at the time were forced into the countryside to take old jobs on farm and help with crops for keep. The site was a labour recruiting station where some 200 people would gather every morning hoping for a days pay.

Well think didn,t turn the way i wanted too but all same still had fun.

This year is 75 years of Vegimite and i did find a first addition jar from 1923 and the only other find was a 1921 half -penny.I cannot understand why you americans don,t like Vegimite :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:

snicker, snicker Any time you want a jar just MP me tinpan

Nice finds, really like the Half Cent.

I'm sorry but this yank doesn't know what Vigimite is? I looked it up on my WordWeb and it couldn't find what it was. But it did have the word Vegemite, which is a savory spread made from yeast extract, used in Australia and New Zealand

Again, neat finds. HH, Ringfinder

I make sure at least one slice of my toast in the morning shares a spread of one or the other - strange dark matters :icon_pirat:
Slices of juicy tomato on top, dust with pepper.

Well, the stuff's supposed to be some sort of yeast product used, among other things, as a bread spread. However, after sampling it at the insistence of an Aussie friend, I immediately decided that it had to be of even less wholesome origin! :P

I think the song you have in mind is probably "Land Down Under" by Men at Work:

Buying bread from a man in Brussels—
He was six foot four and full of muscles—
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich.

However, here's the official Vegemite jingle, which I'm sure friend Tin has heard a time or two!

You mean you've never had a vegimite sandwich?

Buying bread from a man in Brussels.
He was six-foot-four and full of muscles.
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich.
And he said,

"I come from a land down under.
Where beer does flow and men chunder.
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."
Yeah,

Its a beer by-product made from left-over brewers yeast - and anything associated with beer has to be good, right?

It is an acquired taste however and kids are usually fed it from a very early age. Aside from putting on toast or bread, a spoon of it cooked with onions on the BBQ is very nice
