don't know if it would help or not but if you wanted to ride with me and BB we could make some room. You would just have to get to Cape. We're leaving early Friday morning and coming back sometime monday Ros.

You and RR are postimg some beautiful shots, I CAN HARDLY WAIT!

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Evy, just check those who are "trying to come." That's the MIAs as far as I know. It may be a smaller crowd than usual, due to the short notice and time of year. But, we'll have fun, I hope...

We went down the driveway about a half a mile last night and burned the brush around the old homesite. Chimney is still standing, but it was hard to get close to it. Lot of locust (thorn) trees! We burned as many as we could, but we're not done. Going to clean it up for you folks so you can get in there and detect. -Noodle

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Noodle,, No worrys at all you know just seein each other again and getting to meet new people is going to be a blast!

We all have fun no matter what!

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Evy, one thing I will never worry about with this gang is the ability of them to entertain themselves. I would never undertake the entertainment of them myself! ha!!! I do know that you are ALL such mature individuals to never have to undertake a sideline of entertainment for you. I can't wait to see you ALL and have some more fun... In fact, I'm waiting to be entertained.

For those new to this type of adventure, just be yourselves. We just know the ones who have come onboard before you, who are all wonderful individuals. You will only add to the atmosphere and entertainment, and maybe surpass some of them. Come on!!! - Noodle

Awwww, I'm touched! You'd actually make room for me between the case of spare batteries and the GPS antennae?? Maybe I could stitch some sequins to the tutu as a thank you... :-*

Thank you enormously. I appreciate the offer more than you know. It's just that there's a LOT going on this spring, and I just haven't figured out how to add this one in yet.

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Just curious ... how many of you have ever dug up a gold coin? If so, what was it?

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

No gold coin, if I did I would need a change of shorts! If BB did he would need a good undertaker!!! Just kidding. I would love it if either of us could find a gold coin...

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Me, too! :D Just curious. I know that they rarely show up in the headlines of TNET. I personally don't know of anyone who has dug one up. I used to work on a military base at the Officer's Club. Once a month a little ole shriveled up man would show up and he'd run out of his retirement money. BUT, he had a $20 gold coin. He'd leave it for collateral on the rest of his month's meals and drinks. At the end of the month when his retirement check came in, he'd come in and cash out, redeeming his $20 gold piece. The next month, about the 20th or 25th, he'd show up with that coin again. That's the only one I've ever seen. I guess they are rare. -Noodle

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

68

We are iced in here in Swampeast Missouri. Power out, trees down roads aren't safe to drive on. Hope all of you are staying warm and safe.

Noodle, a person in Cape Girardeau found a $5 gold coin this past summer and someone found one in Anna Illinois. I guess there are still a few to be found but they aren't very common.

So what's the official count up to now on how many coming???

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

24? Something like that. And guess what? Got an early morning call from WarsawDaddy today. He'd overshot Archibald and went too far south by 10 miles or so. He finally made it to my house about 7:10, and he and Dave, his driver, had a cup of coffee with us. I think he approved of the setting, but he'll have to verify that if he manages to slide into Missouri sometime later on today. They were headed that direction. But he paid for his hunt! Hopefully he can make it!! We warned them about the icy conditions up there. My dad lives in Galena, 30 miles from Branson, and they were iced in last night really bad. So I'm thinking of ya, ME and BB. Ya'll be careful!

We are having rain storms bad today, but the temp is in the 60s.

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Silver is bout all I can brag or lie about. My hunting buddy Jeff, who has been metal detecting since he was six years old, has found gold coins in two locations. The first was on the banks of Lake Louie. I think he found two coins there. The site he was searching is right below Sicily Island. This was the home of the Catahoula Indians, and was suppose to be the winter camp for Desoto. Desoto's dogs bred with the Indian dog and thus the Catahoula Cur. He also found three gold coins on the banks of the Ouachita River, right below the old civil war fort at Harrisonburg. The old cannon balls on the Fort Hill cemetery were removed a few year back. Somebody with ordinance knowledge informed us local hicks that they were live, I know of more than one idiot that has tapped on them while passing. These locations are about an hour drive from THE NOODLE ESTATE. To my knowledge, the coins Jeff found were not U.S. coinage. Jeff may be at the hunt, maybe he will show them. Mr Luther Stutts, an old farmer and treasure hunter, found six Pieces of Eight, in Franklin Parish, about fifteen minutes from Noodle. They were in a jar sealed with wax. The jar was located in the walls of an old dilapidated sharecropper\slave house. Mr Luther was a fine old fella, had lots of knowledge, old maps, research papers, etc. We lost him about five years back. Last year, Tensas found a five cent and dollar Talla Bena Tokens, in Tensas Parish. They are the second of each known to exist. SOME PEOPLE HAVE ALL THE LUCK!

Re: LOUISIANA BAYOU HUNT - DATE SET - APRIL '08 !

Lordy, I need to get out more!! Thanks for all that info!

I ran across this diary account of Sarah Lois Wadley, who lived in this area during the Civil War. The diary covers August 8, 1859 to May 15, 1865. Within it are rumors, conditions of living, war news, etc., that you may find interesting. http://docsouth.unc.edu/imls/wadley/wadley.html
