Revisited the site I went to the other day and found a few goodies. This one was really lucky it was under a lot of sand and is tiny to begin with I thought for sure it was just another flake but it pays to check all of them I was really surprised it’s a neat little point with a nice color combo Iv never found before

Nice finds there. Many times when surface hunting and flipping out what I think is just a flake, instead has turned out to be a point....some very nice. My thinking is "hey, you're here in the field and seeing something, reach down there and check it out".

Thanks , yep I feel the same check everything ..... and one of these times it’s gonna be a killer serrated knife .... and not a leaf ..... can’t count how many times I’ve reached into some ice cold water to be fooled but all part of the fun

You know arrow86 if you had posted a rock and nothing else you would of had 30 responses by now. But instead you posted a great hunt and beautiful material to so of course Im only the 2nd person to respond. Im going to post a few of my hard stone pieces my better ones and a example of the broken Celt end compared to the whole one. Check it out and see if you see any detail that you broken one has for comparison and see if it fits. Also I want to point out that the polish on a Celt never goes away I dont care if its in water for 1000,s of years. Thanks for sharing your finds.

Yeah that’s something Iv never really understood seems goefacts get more responses than artifacts but I appreciate you taking the time to respond lookin forward to seeing your hardstones , when it comes to hammer stones I leave a lot of them behind usually just bring home the nicer ones Iv never been lucky enough to find a nice Celt this site has me looking hard for one ... the recent erosion of the banks has a ton of Hardstone tools / hammer stones so maybe a nice Celt or axe head will show up

So the one you found that has the red on it (point) is that a chert or a quartzite? I can see its heat treated but was wondering about the material. Also on the big scraper what is it. On the rock post if I see its a rock I usually dont even bother to answer unless I see others calling it an artifact. I dont know a lot of the actual stone names but can clearly see when it isnt a type that would of been used like sediment layered stones.

The arrowheads.com forums seems to be about backslapping if that’s what your looking for.

Yeah that’s clearly what I’m after

I sense some jealous behavior from Fred all you have to do is look back at his started threads to know what I am talking about. Its okay I think you deserve a good pat on the back myself. People just dont understand what it takes to find an actual artifact if they have never found one before, congrats on your finds.

Good eyes finding that neat little grey point with red streaks. It is an interesting material, I think I have seen some cores and flakes from similar stuff, but I don't think I have any intact points made from it. The sharp and curved quartz point is sweet ! The broken tip missing bottom odd material, looks familiar to me. I have some points made of that material, and quite a few cores and brokes too. It is a quartzite that for some reason often has a shiny glaze on it, as if it were lightly sprayed with clear paint. I don't know if the shiny appearance would be there on a freshly chipped piece, or if that effect comes only after millennia of patination? Does that piece have a little shine to it when dry? You are on a roll, and I really enjoy seeing your finds.

I like the unusual and wish independent thought wasn’t discouraged. I’d rather make a mistake on a geofact then miss something interesting.

Nothing wrong with that the problem is when people assume an unusual or just odd shaped rock makes it an artifact

Nice finds arrow, the little point with the red streak is really cool. Also the translusent point. I think you are correct on the two hardstone pieces. I would also say that I enjoy the seeing artifacts a lot more than geofacts if thats what you want to call them.
