Hi all,
(sorry if this post shows up twice - my first attempt had pictures that were too big)
I had the best day detecting ever! I went out for a little detecting this afternoon to a little park near my house where I had found three indian head pennies. One of them was an 1864, so I knew the place had potential for more old ones). I passed over my usual spots and went to an area I had not been in a while (back when I was still learning my machine). After about 20 minutes (a Jefferson nickel and two memorials) I got a signal on my prism III that seemed like it might be an IH (or a regular dime or a pull tab or a bottle cap :-) ) I popped up the plug and from the bottom fell a clump of dirt back in the hole with a little silver in it. It was really tiny - too small to be a dime and I immediately though halfdime, based on the discussions I have read here. All I could see was the word DIME on the back and Miss Liberty seated on the front through the dirt. I resisted the urge to wipe it (another tip I picked up on this forum) and placed it in my pocket for later. A few minutes later, I was working the area and within about 5 feet i get another IH :-) signal. I dig this one up and sure enough I can see it is a greenish IH, but again I can';t read the date and I figured i would reveal them both at the same time. I plop it in another pocket(so they don't rub together) and kept on detecting. After a little while the bugs were getting bad (and the suspense was killing me), so I went back home.
I was most excited about the half dime, so I rinsed it first with water and it turned out to be an 1837 - wow the first year they were struck! The reverse is a bit worn but it is my first - so I will keep it :-)

I then rinsed the indian head, just to see what I had (I already knew, based on the thickness, that is was not older than my 1864 - see even more knowledge from this forum!)
Anyway - I could not believe it when i saw the date 1877 !!! I had just read the recent banner post on this coin!
Mine does not have the same level of detail as NJ Marty's, but it beats the heck out of a lot of the IH pennies I have found previously from that area (maybe the ground knew it was special :-) )

Here is a picture of them both together to show how small that half dime is (cute, huh?)

Anyway - I guess I will have to consider getting this coin professionally cleaned and slabbed (as mentioned in many of NJ Marty's discussion points)
Thanks for looking!
