With a Government Shutdown looming, and if Federal Park employees go on furlough, does that mean all National Parks and Federal Land is open season for Metal Detecting?

What I've always heard is; a law is only a law if it is enforced :) Our border with Mexico is proof of that!!

Update: October 2, 2013, 1:15PM - PST

As of now, the thread is up to 63 comments / replies and it looks like some of the long term posters to TNet are having fun with this post. They range from people that would never break the law, no matter what. To people that believe the relics under the ground on Federal land will disintegrate over time and be lost forever.

Personally, I'm getting a little dizzy, but it here's the synopsis in no particular order:

Leave the relics in the ground! Follows the laws! Dig the relics up, they will turn to dust! Are you serious or joking! Artifacts does zero good buried in the ground! The relics and lead will pollute the ground water! Future high tech equipment will know what's down there and why! The ground is sacred in National Parks! We can tunnel under and get the stuff that way! It's all the Archies fault! Do you even metal detect? Anthropologists do not support digging every site! Maybe our parks are actually government storage areas for aliens!TreasureNet does not advocate the breaking of any laws, local, state or federal! If your detector goes over a target and no one is there to hear it...does it make a sound? The way it's going, there will be no place to Metal Detect! Dig um up! Leave um there! I'm right, your wrong! No! I'm right and your wrong!
Gotta Love It!!

It's no wonder Congress's Approval Rating is only 10% and they can't agree on anything.

You'll have to park outside and hike into Bolsa Chika! Lol! Maybe park in Sunset Beach and hike from there!

Gettysburg anyone??? Lol

:laughing7: would be nice :laughing7:

But those Yahoos will be working anyway,
simply on their power trip.

besides "state police" do not get layed off,
they just get raises & Brownie points.
so worst case, they would be called

Let's say that if a 55 mph sign was still standing. Yet it was common knowledge that there was no highway patrols out d/t layoffs, and thus un-enforced. Then ......... would people tend to go over 55 mph ? They probably would. But if you asked authorities: "Can I go over 55 mph?", they would tell you "no".

Well in that case, I think I’ll run out and find a good spot in a park and put up a fence and no trespassing signs.

Always want to own a mountain.

I must admit the same thought crossed my mind. But sadly in Florida the state gives a house lot for free to a police officer meaning a cop lives at the entrance to every park in the state.

frightening to believe that a law is the only thing keeping some from digging up Gettysburg or other important historical monuments.

of course it's the law.

otherwise we would be trying to save the stuff from rotting to dust.

You see we Love & Respect the Relics.

and nobody needs to pay us to find volunteers to dig them up
and hide them away in boxes

I hike in anyway, Bolsa Chica State Beach does not open until 6:00AM, I'm scanning by 5:30AM. And it's a State Beach, which is not Federal :)

Interesting thought! You obey laws only because they are enforced, when you believe they are wrong. Frank...

Assume you are saying this as a joke, right?

Dick! Let's me put it this way. if I lived close to Yosemite, Wawona Village and Campground would not have a chance :) But I would need to ride my bicycle in, because Wawona is about twenty something miles from the main gate.

Are you saying that if you were close to a national park you WOULD hunt there? Your answer is confusing...sorry.

Gov shut down or not it is still against fed law to hunt National Parks and National monuments and most national recreational areas.

Very surprising to me - A lot of you sound like Archy's!

Common Sense Law's made to protect people - Abide by them.

Ridiculous Law's made by pathetic people - Don't care about them.

Example - Archy heads up Wisconsin DNR - Adds new law - No metal detecting in ANY water in Wisconsin. Thousands of lakes.

Catch my drift people - Stupid Law made by an idiot, and I for one will not abide by it.

Soon, none of you will have anywhere to detect with this logic.

I think we are talking fed laws and national parks..

Of course this Thread is Light Hearted Dick except for a couple responses.
as Not everyone can take a Joke.

(Or are just acting holier then thou to start arguments :dontknow: )

Naturally if the laws didn't exist it would be different,
But I doubt very much any of our members would
do anything Illegal
