Mex 4 real, seated, CW, pre CW and whats'its ...hot weekend hunts
I took Friday and today as vacation days to make Memorial weekend extra long and headed south. Was able to get in a long hunt on Friday but could only hunt very early on Sun and Mon due to temps in the mid 90's. My dad and I were baking in that pasture. All three hunts were in the same site that a month ago produced a CW US boxplate and a colonial shoe buckle. The first days hunt I took home the prize with a 1891 Seated dime...out of the same hole came a totally toasted 1890 V nickle, also a few flat buttons. Dad got a real nice big flat button.
Day 2 was all dad with a large mother of pearl handled pocket knife, a London back marked flat button and a nice dopped Sharps carbine bullet (his first!).
Day 3 was back to me with the smallest silver coin I have ever seen...had to google it to discover it is a 1843 Mexican 4 Real, I also found a brass container that has me puzzled...match case? It has marking on the bottom and does have a seam that would be the top...I think to open it I would have to destroy it whicj I do not want to do...but I am dying to know what is inside..if anything. Dad also got a real nice fob? Not seen in the pic is the back side which is the open area and it has a sharp pin in the center...maybe for a compass
All in all not bad for a hot relic hunting holiday weekend with the dad and son team. Thanks for looking and HH'ing all.
