For the "lovely" year of 2020. Just depends on the weather and how I feel.

Ya know....I walked/stumbled/crawled thru a cornfield today. It reminded me of something. That doing *ANY*thing...for FOUR hours is a long time of doing!!! :sleepy2:

Anyhoo....if this was my last hunt, I'm thinking it wasn't too bad a way to cap this year.

As always, I'll leave it up to you to decide if I wasted my time.

1211201745~2.jpg

I've had worse days. :)
Enough finds to keep busy, varied enough to keep it interesting.

1211201746~2.jpg 1211201746a~2.jpg

First up, this neat lil buckle. This thing was almost 10 inches deep!!

1211201747b_HDR~2.jpg
1211201747a_HDR~2.jpg
1211201747_HDR~2.jpg

After my ears stopped ringing. I walked back and picked up my headphones and set about digging up this find that rang up as a *SOLID* and *HUGE* 91 in every direction!

Whatever it is, its completely non-magnetic. And it was almost *TWO FEET* underground!!!

But....I gotta say, Fishy has chosen the one find that I, for some reason, like the most.

1211201748a~2.jpg 1211201748~2.jpg

Open to any thoughts about attempting to clean this one. Or...maybe just leave alone?

All in all, not too bad for a long stumble thru a cornfield. Eh?

Hope everyone is staying safe.

And, as always, thanks folks for all the wonderful peeks and feedback thru the year!

you want to remove the dirt but not the patina , to clean the breast plate I would use soap , water and a tooth brush. then get it good and dry in a 175*F warm oven then coat it with Johnsons paste wax or olive oil while still warm . after it cools buff with a soft rag.
Everybody here has their own ways of doing things , this is mine. I have breast plates that I recovered 30 years ago that still look good using this method.

Thanks Sub ole buddy. I was hoping the hub cap was off a very rich person's car and made of pure sterling. :tongue3:

Ok...so this is going to be about all the "restoration" I'm going to try.

Thought I'd share the results.
BTB, is there any way to tell what years this thing covers?

Congrats and nicely done Sir!
CW relic is the topping on the season.
Not too shabby on the Chrys. hub cap either.
Now you know where the goodies are hiding...deep!
Will there be a tug of war between the minions for the goodies? My money is on Blingie

I tried posting a day ago, evidently the internet was out...or it just doesn't like me.:BangHead:

I thought Blingie was going to have a heart attack! He took one look at that humongous shiny, shiny and passed right out! ;)

Thanks!

Really great variety! I see that you did an amazing job cleaning up the breast plate, but I was going to recommend trying these ingenious cleaning "pencils" from France. I was lucky enough to find a breast plate like yours that was in worse shape but it cleaned up pretty well with these things; you can be very precise with them. Thanks!

I've been wanting to get a set of those pencils! But, fortunately, this one was in far better shape underneath. Came out better than I expected.

Good job stumbles! I found one of those breastplates hunting with smokythecat few years back. I do like it better when those cornfields are soybean fields the following year.
