A friend of mine is trying to identify this (what looks like) a military lapel pin. It may be upside down in the photo.

Can anyone help?

I can't find an exact match other than the one ffuries found.

I'm guessing JROTC, but I can't prove it.

Don’t know what it is, but if made by Vanguard it will likely have one of the following backmarks:

World War II - early 1950s: stylized eagle, shield, and a “V”, sometimes with the name “Vanguard” in a scroll at the bottom; or the word “Vanguard” with “N.Y.”

c1953/4 – 1964/5: the two digit code “1V”

c.1964/5 - 1974: the code “V-21”

1974 to date (still in use): the code “V-21-N”

If any of those check out, you could try contacting them since they are still in business as “Vanguard Industries Inc.” Their website is here (and there’s a link to their facebook page at the top):

Military? Very likely.
Upside-down maybe, but if not,
It is some secret society's badge/emblem/logo.
Cool Find! :icon_thumright:
