sonofadigger, as a side note, scouts kerchief slides come in quite a few different styles..... the scout slides had slight changes over a span of years (which of course helps to date them) and different ranks of scouts had different designs in the center

cool thanks for the info looks like mine is 1940's-1950's which is awesome wasn't expecting to find it but i guess that's why all metal detect the thrill of finding something

Definitely looks exactly like the boyscouts thing I had when I was a scout.

How do you do that

It is the reverse of how they remove rust and crud from coins and iron relics.
You switch the polarity and use a Nickel (for example) as the sacrifical annode and the nickel will transfer on to the object you want plated. In this example now it would be nickel plated when you are done. You can use other metals to electroplate it with also.
It is easy and cheap to set up at home.

Your's is not for certain from the 40's-50's. I used the same style in the 80's and my son has one now.

The OLD ones do not have bendable tabs on the back, they are a one piece concave bar that is riveted on the back. If you start finding those, grid the area. Scouts = Silver!
