When I first joined this site I happened to see a post about a Moccasin Last, didn't have a clue what one was.Reading a book this morning about stone artifacts and dang if it didn't have a short paragraph about them, seem about half or more people think they are natural and the rest think they were used to make moccasins. Well I found what looks like a baby shoe Moccasin Last, lol, I picked this thing up only because it looked like a foot....Carl

Old textiles, especially their sewing, show a women s skill, even a time when it was displayed in some culture by single gals. Number of stitches per inch, neatness of spacing and straightness are things I look at and shake my head at the skill involved.. Skill seen in the home is less today in hand sewing, but skill there was in the past.

I never thought posting my little rock that really does look like a shoe would generate so much conversation. I am going to stick with posting non shoe looking finds and I hope you guys will still help me ID them even though I posted this obviously controversial object. Best Wishes to all....Carl

we have had this conversation before..perhaps you can tell.....

Still new to the site so I'm having a hard time posting responses and pics together. The above picture is what I believe to be a moccasin last or a ceremonial left foot believed at the time to curse someone with black magic. I'm not sure but found it in a cave in the backwoods of the Appalachian mountains.

Looks like someone put some work into carving this rock to look this way. If nothing else I will use my vivid imagination and decide that it's magic!

Not trying to be a smart ass, but no amount of research will prove that is a Moccasin Last or even a man made artifact. The was caused by natural freeze fracturing and not by flaking, pecking, or grinding. Trust the folks on here that will tell you the same. Moccasin Lasts are figments of vivid imaginations. Why would they need a rock for this when they could use the foot of the person? That rock is not going to match the foot size of very many people. This myth began years ago and people still think that is what these are but they aren't.

If it was form or mold for moccasin don't you think they would have made the heel round. .... It is a fractured rock.
