Some more pics of Jdsly and my finds from Saturday. After not digging anything on the morning hunt, I finally found these two buttons at our other site:

We went back to our colonial site after lunch and I dug what looks to be a hat pin, not sure. Both pieces came from the same hole, but I didn't realize it could be a stone setting until we got home and cleaned it...wish I would have sifted the hole, might have been a nice stone!

And finally, we made one more run back at our original site and found this heal plate...not sure how old but in the same area Jdsly found his gold gilt button (a real cool design front button, if you haven't seen it look at his post from yesterday, worth the effort, really nice button!).

Also found this odd iron piece. I'll clean it and try to get an id.

Good finds. The piece that you are calling a heel plate is actually the front or back of an old iron lock.

Great finds! the odd iron piece looks like it may be a old padlock.

Cool!

Hat Pins are usually long strait pins with a larger decorative end.
That pin looks as if it were a "shawl" pin or used for the wraps they often wore.

Thanks for the input. An old lock back makes more sense than a heel plate. Thanks for id
