Hi All !
I am staying away from Cob Cove to let it recover a bit, this really works,
items turn up again after I give it a rest.
My land hunt starts at a foundation I discovered a mile or so down a cartpath,
50 feet down the path, a 63 Rosie, love it when you can see the coin in the pile without pinpointing :D
A bit more down the path I recover the largest horseshoe I've seen.
Around the foundation, some brass bits,
Inside, just a plated lead tube cap, stamped WMC with cork cover :dontknow:
The ground here is 8-12 inches of finely matted roots and leaf litter, so soft & porous I think that the old items have just sunk out of range.
I'm being swarmed by tiny flies that leave bloodspots and welts wherever they
bite :P not deterred by 100% DEET.
So, off to the seacoast !
Looking at an old map, I'd seen a ship under construction in an area I had not explored yet, boatyard ! :hello2:
On the first try here, not much for finds (so much lead scrap, brought home a bucketful), found a key fob, crusted, all I could see was 'rink', thought I had a Drink token.
half of the oldest padlock I've recovered, looks handmade, was the back iron ?
A couple of lead seals, first ones found I can read, B&M (Boston & Maine) RR,
and HW Spur (as in RR spur?) Boston.
The brass thumbnut was in a lump of clay with the reeding exposed, so of course I'm expecting that gold coin that's coming soon :laughing7:
A brass finial and spyglass eyepiece (I think)
Small bit of silver pin/brooch,
And a blistered pewter cover of some sort, good sign of older things to come.
I kept the oldest looking pottery fragment I saw, It's in the center of the group photo, Can anyone give an approximate date on this embossed sunburst style? :help:
The area behind the boatyard was a landfill, and people had recently dug 4 large pits, leaving behind their fragments and discards, not to mention 23 'natural ice' cans, and big dangerous undercut holes, shame on them, may all their finds be heartbreakers >:( . I removed their cans & trash, & caved in the overhangs.)
Happy to get a bit o silver and the fob, and the cove here was a large operation,
will be returning to see what else I can dig up :icon_sunny:
Happy Hunting Everyone !!!

Nice lil variety there :icon_thumleft:

I always wonder when i find a large live bullet if my shovel would fire it :icon_scratch:

Could it :dontknow:

Blaze
Thanks Blaze :hello:
If a bullet were to fire from being struck, it would only scatter fragments of the casing,
yes, a bit dangerous, "You'll lose an eye" :laughing7:
Not likely, and not life threatening.
As a child I grabbed a handful of .22 ammo from my dads box, My friends and I had a grand time smashing them with bricks to fire them off :tongue3:
(Don't try this at home kids).
Great digs to You

Very interesting assortment of finds there Herbie! :notworthy:
I see you've been pretty busy afterall! :laughing7:

This is a cool piece! I wonder what it's function was? :icon_scratch:
