I came across this sidewalk tearout today in a park where many old coins have been found in the past. As soon as I saw it I figured it would be good because the original sidewalk was very old and not likely to have a lot of gravel under the cement. There was about 2 to 3 inches of sand and then black dirt. The coins were in the black dirt about 1 to 2 inches deep.

Silvery sweet finds there, BK!

Are you all done with that spot or are you gonna mine some more out of there?

I figure that by next weekend there will be new cement there. I may have to go back though just to see if they plan to take out any more.
Your avatar ( I love it) reminds me of how I looked when I saw that the sidewalks were out. LOL

Thanks BK!

LOL yeah, I'd be making the face if I saw that too--along with laying rubber down with my swerving and stopping.

I wander if the local government would mind if I started just tearing up the old sidewalks in town??? ::) They really do need to be replaced - ;)

Holy Crap! That is some good stuff. SWEET! ;D ;D

When they do sidewalk tearouts here they do about 25 ft sections. Were those the old sandstone sidewalks?

Bob

I'll be in Minnesota next week, maybe I'll see you detecting sidewalk tear ups. lol ;)

Sounds like you would just be doing your civic duty!!! ;D

Isn't it amazing to think that those coins you just dug up were lost over 100 years ago? They were accidentally dropped and forgotten by some random person before your father, maybe even grandfather was even born. Amazing!

Very nice ... hard to beat a day like that!

Congrats on the nice silvers! HH, Mike
