I went out a few days ago to another swimming hole while the lake is still down. I found my first silver that came out shiny from a lake bed. It is the mercury dime and it was about 5" deep in the solid packed granular slate bottom. The heart ring is sterling and it was black as coal when I found it. I feel like an idiot though. When I got to the lake I got my old shoes out of the bed of the truck and they were frozen solid. They were still wet from the last trip and the below freezing temperatures just made them hard as a rock. well, I beat them on the ground till I got them loose enough to put them on and I went at it, lol... It was spitting snow all day and the wind almost pushed me in the water a couple of times while I was hunting a steep bank in the slick mud. I also found the smallest pestle I ever saw. It is concave on both sides. I also found a crude scraper and a nearly whole arrowhead. I found a bunch of sinkers and lures too. I found an old Listerine bottle that must have been in a fire. It's melted and crooked but it's whole, lol... It was a rough day but worth it. I found the 36 Washington today in front of an old medical clinic and it was about 5" deep between some tree roots and I scratched it trying to get it out. Have a good one you all and good luck hunting!!!

Well I think you had Great Day,I been Tecting bout 12 yrs off and on and I STILL AIN'T found me one of them cottonpicking MERC's.Good job and I love your tenacity,I too like them old swimming holes.

So the question is do you fish? If so you can recycle those lures and sinkers! He he.

I'd trade those lures and maybe even some silver in for some insulated waders! ;D
Good finds!

Great finds. You might have been a little crazy to go out, but heck, no pain no gain. From the looks of things, you can be glad that the ground was a little hard. With all of that lead you were carrying, it could have buried you ankle deep in the mud. I would return to that spot a few more times, as I'm sure that there is still more there. WTG

thats dedication!

Thanks for sending me the Day-twah Tigers ring, Mr. L. You're a class act, practical jokes an' all.

I'm going to pick out something from all the bizarre stuff I've dug up and then PM you for your mailing address--which you had darn well better give me at the time so I don't have to send it to:

Thanks again!

Nice variety of stuff! Swimming holes rule!

Way to go DANGLANGLEY. A few months ago I also found a very nice, fully-intact Indian arrow head at an old water hole, and found an Indian cent to boot! The arrow head was a sight-find. Cool stuff my man...
