Being in Canada these do not pop up for me too often. I wish it was in better condition but I may be able to clean it up a bit. 1837 large cent. I really do not know too much about this type of coin so any info would be appreciated!

I also found the arrowhead on the same site.

Great finds large cents are always a joy to find, its a matron head large cent. The arrowhead is a nice find also I need to get out there and do some arrowhead hunting.HH!

Congratulations on your first American Large Cent. I think I even have an attribution for you. It appears of the 17 varieties for that year that you found a Newcomb 3 (N.3) variety, Common, Rarity 1. The distinguishing thing I saw for the attribution is "close date but the 1 8 more apart than the 837 are. Usually I would need to see visible details on the Reverse side to ensure that is the variety, but feel fairly certain that is a correct ID.

Your arrowhead is a beautiful point, I could not find a exact duplicate in my one book, but by all appearances it is from the Archaic period but not sure if Early, Middle or Late. At worst case it would only be from around 1800 B.C. but could be up to 7900 B.C. I just do not know, but similar notched points with that type of blade and base are spread out thru that period, but did not see close ones in the more Woodland (contact) period. Post it on the Arrowhead forum here and maybe someone can give a positive ID and date range.

Congrats on the largie! A year or so ago that would have been like digging 1.5 Canadian cents, but not anymore!

Congrats and im waiting on my first large cent too.

Romeo, I love the 1837 Coronet cent. We once found a field with 15 of those buggards in it. We happily named it "The Coronet Field." In my opinion, it was my second favorite site during my short career. Of course, the best site that I've ever hit is the one that we're currently excavating.

A great find for sure, buddy!

In the (3-1/2) years I have been detecting here in the crossroads of America, ( Indiana), I have only found (2) of them myself... An 1852, & a 1820... They don't look too much better than what you have there...
