Relic Hunting
KKC got out today to a new field. It was located in prime Colonial ground and the weather was perfect for digging. I was the first one to dig a relic. It was a cuff tombac button. :hello2: After that, the bonanza happened! :headbang: I dug the beautiful King George II only a foot away from the button. I was pumped! :headbang: I really do not remember the order I dug the coppers, so I will tell you what else I dug. I popped out a beautiful 1787 New Jersey copper, 1787 Vermont copper :laughing7:, and a 1781 Irish King George III in about 30 minutes of time. Every high signal turned out to be a Colonial copper. :hello2:

All of the buttons were either tombac or Dandy. :hello2: It was purely a Colonial site. We found no 19th century artifacts on this 1/4 acre of ground that the relics/coppers were dug. I am still in disbelief on how many Colonial coppers (11) were dug at this site in such a short period of time. I hope you guys enjoyed my thread.

Keep the passion high!

Kirk :hello:

Re: My Best Colonial Bonanza

Sir, your skunk mobile is ready when you want it. Until then I will unfortunately have to keep driving it. :tongue3:

Re: My Best Colonial Bonanza

Dude, that's a Vermont! But that's good because it will probably be easier to ID.

Re: My Best Colonial Bonanza

Stellar finds! I can only wish.

All the best,

Lanny

Re: My Best Colonial Bonanza

Sweet finds! I had my own Colonial Bonanza today as well!

Re: My Best Colonial Bonanza

Great find and like you said great digging weather!

Re: My Best Colonial Bonanza

Nice to see you guys are back in action!

You guys were certainly in "the zone" there Kirk. Congratulations on a great hunt. I like those tombacs with the design. This is the kind of site where you may finally pop an identifiable Rev War button.

Sweet hunt, Kirk. That's the good stuff.
Hope Steve is right on the possibility of finding some Rev War stuff there. :headbang:

Kirk, here's you're Vermont. Too bad it's common, but that's not a big deal because it would have to be quite rare to be worth anything in that condition. Knowing the variety is as good as it gets for many dug Colonials.

1787 VERMONT COPPER -
RYDER 13

Rarity: Common

As you can see even a lot of the higher grade ones are weak in the reverse, so makes perfect sense why it's not as good as your obverse. The reverse die was used on other varieties so not a lot of help anyway. The obverse is unique to your type so if you could pick one side to be better it would be the front because it makes it identifiable.

Congrats, i dug a Vermont this weekend as well, in Pennsylvania also.

Looks like you guys had alot of fun, nice job on the coppers!

awesome hunt fellas! i'd pound the crap outta that place!
