Last summer I was in Missouri looking over a 22 room mansion on 10,000 acres my parents own. The Manison had been handed down through the family and was built in 1850. I am to go there this coming summer to dismantle the entire home as it is collapsing in many areas and has not been occupied for nearly 30 years. I was able to get inside and recover boxes of items that I brought back to Tucson. Today I was going through a box that had many books in it. Looking through the books a coin fell out into my lap. To my surprise it was an 1877 twenty dollar double eagle.

I plan to have a metal detector by the time I head back to Missouri as I am told many coins were buried on the property and may have more within the home. My mother who just passed away December 28th at the age of 91 told me as a child growing up in the home that she use to play with gold coins and that her dad and grandfather hide coins in the house and outside.

Way to cool, I wish I could have a deal like that! What a huge piece of land! Did you mean to really say 10,000 acres?

My condolences on the loss of your mother. My father is 91 and still hanging in there. Is the house stable enough to m.d. the walls and floors? Sounds like a dream chance to find great stuff.

Yes but the land is not all together. Its currently being sub-leased by different farmers.

My father is 91 and still driving. He goes to the casino each week. As for the house its in bad shape. Going to get as much lumber as we can as it's very valuable. All hardwood.

The picture makes it appear to be silver, not gold, but I know it appeared to be a similar coin to the one that Kuger used to have as his avatar... Very cool indeeed and best of luck on your quest and thanks for showing it....

My condolences to you sir, it’s always tough losing a love one. We are both so grateful to have them in our lives as long as we did. Thank you for the information on the coin. I can't wait to get back home and work the area in and around the old house. There are old barns, smoke houses, etc. on the land. The plan is to recover all the hardwood and re-mill it. Back then a 2x4 was a real 2x4.

Sorry about your loss. That's never an easy thing.

As to your find--many congratulations! That is fantastic. I'm sure you'll have tons of fun detecting those grounds--you may have a real bonanza in the making.

All the best,

Lanny

Its because of the flash on my camera phone. Here is a photo with no flash against my jeans. This shows the true rich color.

Sorry to hear about your mother.

That would eat me up wanting to return! YouTube is your friend keep us posted. I am happy for you.

Sorry for your loss. It's harder losing your Mom than any other relative I think.
Let me know if you need some help with the barns. I would trade my labor in exchange for some of the barn siding wood. I'm going to be remodeling my kitchen next year and I want to use old barn wood for part of my wall covering and counter tops. I would probably only need one pick up load or so. Also, I have access to a nice metal detector that one of our club members won at the gold & treasure show back in Oct. I wouldn't think of taking any of your treasure, but it sure would be fun to help you find it. I'm near St. Louis, but I could make a weekend road trip if it's far from there. Let me know if this interests you.

We'd love to look over your shoulder via utube sometime while dismantling! Sorry about the circumstances.

Sorry for your loss

I feel for you too AZ Viper.
I lost my Mom last year. She went before her time.
After a fall she lapsed into a coma.
We all got to say goodbye, I was talking to her as she passed.
Now she's always with me.
One thing it taught me is make sure that those you love know you love them.
You never know how long you will be here.

If your interested in a helper or two I would love to join you all finds are yours of course. we'd fly to your location. No cost to you at all. Just love the hunt and old stuff. Lmk

Very sorry to hear about your mother. Thats tough.

Congrats on the coin. Your going to have a blast detecting out there! Definitely jealous!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and offers for help. Its many months until my brother and I even make the trip back east. Because we have family in that area I believe we have all the help we need but I do appreciate the offers, if something should come up I will post at this thread. Thanks again for the kind words.

Very sorry about your mother. . . she's in a better place for sure.

Excellent recovery on that double eagle! You have a lot of hunting to look forward to in the future. Be sure
to keep a notebook handy to jot down any notes or thoughts about possible areas in the house to explore. . . before you forget.
If I'm not mistaken, there was a thread posted 5 or 6 years back on T-Net about possible "places" in the home that would be worth checking out.

Good luck & best wishes!
