MY FIRST 1800's SILVER and it's tiny!!! My 2nd oldest coin ever!
December must be my lucky month. Last year I dug the Spanish silver piece of eight reale, and today I FINALLY dug my first ever 1800's silver. This is also my 2nd oldest coin EVER!
I hit the plantation house at lunch today, and started detecting the back horse pasture. It is all overgrown now that the horses are gone. There is one path that has been mowed so I started detecting it. I got an iffy signal and dug about 6". In the pile of dirt I saw a tiny silver coin.
I knew it was too small to be a Barber or Merc, so I immediately thought "Spanish silver".
I gave it a quick glance and could tell it wasn't a reale , but had no idea what it was.
Since I don't normally find really old coins, and I saw an "1833" and "5C" on it, I was really stumped.
When I got back to work I hit the internet (PCGS site) and discovered I had dug an 1833 Capped Bust Half Dime!!!
FINALLY I had dug my first 1800's silver. This along with finding a dated LC were two of my goals for 2008. I still haven't found that elusive LC yet.
This 1833 Half Dime is my 2nd oldest coin ever.
Even though the coin is holed, I am overjoyed to have found a coin this old. The scratch on her cheek was there from before too.
I think holed coins actually have more character than non-holed. It shows that this tiny coin really had some value to someone back then.
Here are a few videos from my find today:

*Gold (?) and Diamond (?) earring- found in plantation yard
*Buggy or Carriage step
*Wm. Roger's & Son spoon - Dated Aug 21, 17' (1917)
*Asst'd buckles
*Pottery shard
Thanks for looking & have a great weekend,
MM
