Hello All,

Long day so I'll be brief. 12 hours in the field digging. The day started in the mid 30s, which is very cold for here. Warmed up to the mid 60s. The frost on the ground in the morning made for some slippery nasty mud later on. We didn't get ourselves on much of a site today, so we had to settle for random drops: couple musketballs, couple flat buttons, some newer GawGag coins, a beautiful gilded Colonial watch winder that Shangalang dug, and my first Capped Dime. :)

Although we seem to be in a lull on the Spanish recently, I have hopes we'll at least get one more before January, which would give us 28 for the year, and 47 total for two years of digging LA. Quite a record, and one that we likely won't ever repeat.

At any rate, enjoy the video and finds. I got some great footage of the burning off of the fields at night, which is a sight that I love to see. It means that they are clearing the ground of stubble so we can get back out in some of our old fields again.

nice finds congrats HH

Really enjoyed the day. Here is a picture or two of the nickels. Congrats on the Capped dime.

Man, that 1912 is in great shape! Wonder if it is a Denver coin or Philly...

Wow! Another hardcore hunt from you guys! And well worth the effort! Great finds and thanks for showing the burning cane fields. Never seen before.

Yeah, they look like the fires of hell. Such a surreal sight to see the ground on fire in every direction when they're burning them off.

Here burning fields is strictly forbidden for at least 80 years....

Scrath that one off the list! Those coins don't come along very often.

With the air pollution that it creates, and the danger to property, I'm not sure why the practice is allowed to continue here...but Louisiana in some ways is about 3/4 of a century behind the rest of the world. ;) :D

Sounds like a place for me to settle down!

Many congrats Buck on your dime. Those things are as hard as hens teeth to dig around here so I know how you feel. It took me 10+ years to dig my first bust silver coin, and I still only have a grand total of 2 (a dime and half dime). Hope you don't have to wait long for your second. Also, your watch winder is similar to a silver one I dug back in Jan at a site that dated to the 1600s and even produced a 1583 hammered sixpence. I know our winders aren't anywhere near that old, but its still a very cool find.

If you're not that excited about that capped bust dime, I'll gladly take it off your hands!

When I lived in Edmonton a farmer burning his fields caused a 24 car pile up as the smoke crossed a major highway, and I was stuck in the million car traffic jam he created.:angry4:
