Detector(s) used
ACE 250,Whites prism2
Hello Everyone,As some of you may know I'm fairly new to this forum and to the whole md'ing hobby,on sunday night I was able to borrow a detector from a guy i met until Wednesday so i had 3 days to use it as much as possible before I needed to return it back.I'm happy to report that i actually had an amazingly fun time (i know this hobby is for me now!!),call it beginners luck but i have some things to show you, lemme say i did find a ton of junk cans, tabs, foil, and even a kitchen sink ;D.Yet after all that i remained diligent and kept at it.When i saw my first ever detected penny drop into the hole I could not stop smiling and thinking of what could come next<<thats the addiction, after that i found another :o 15 minutes after that i found my 1st silver claw ring(value:probably worthless but to me PRICELESS).That definitely got my mind swimming,my blood flowing, with no cure for this addiction only to dig more, now the rundown of my first ever md'ing finds in 3 days.(it gets better)

(1) sac. gold dollar coin
(1) 1950 wheat penny
(1each)hood ornament,matchbox car,boyscout neckerchief emblem,and a key
(clad)$5.30 total
(2)unknown tokens/coins(pedal power champ from The Energy Center)
(2) silver rings
(1) 18" silver necklace 925 Italy
~~pics are below~~
May i just say that it doesn't top some of the great finds i have seen here, but for 3 days and never used a detector before in my life I had such an awesome time and i hope my luck will continue, maybe in time I will find some of those great old coins you all are getting.TY for looking HH and stay safe

I will keep looking. I am hoping to head to the beach this weekend. Looks like Sunday will be the day.

Congrats on beginners luck & all those great finds. Hopefully the luck stays with you. ;D

I have a Bounty Hunter Lone Star, it's not a bad machine for the price but it's very basic. It does find the targets, lots of them, all of them ...anything/everything metal LoL Im new to the hobby and I usually dig everything. Only problem I dont like with the BH is it doesn't give a depth reading and doesn't pinpoint the target. I never know how deep to dig or if im even digging over the target or next to it and it gets frustrating.

I want a new machine that pinpoints and tells me the depth of the target. Im been looking at the Predator 3 but unsure. Anyone have any idea's? Main feature's I want is Depth Indicator, Pinpoint, Auto Ground Bal. and Target ID.

well, you whooped my behind and I've been at it for 10 months! Great hunting and welcome to the hobby!

Fantastic firsts!!! :o You have been busy!

Congrats! Nan :)

Pretty dang nice run of luck I'd say chains can be diffucult, as my exp. is the give that broken sound, but 2 silver rings Thats sweet

I don't think my machine likes chains. I have only found one that looks alot like yours that was 14K, but that was by luck alone. Now you bury a wad of foil or shredded aluminium the size of a pinhead, and I'll find it a mile away. This one has me baffled. Again, you found some great stuff, keep it up.

Great stuff for a newbie. Kicking my butt too. :-\

Where did you hunt and how did you decide to hunt there? Why did you think there was anything worth finding there?

Answers to these questions will help all the beginners. Evidently you asked the right questions and got the right answers.

Thanks professor,I can answer those questions now I just didn't want to make my first finds post too long in the beginning because I was so stoked I coulda droned on for hours ;D

Where did i hunt?..I live in a pretty historic area of NY state(but found not one historic relic yet!!) so i chose areas that were most frequented by todays people IE. my yard was the 1st place i looked(back in the late 70's it use to be full of camps) I remembered my grandmother had a camp here in this very spot as well as many other families.I searched a dam that is very popular in the summer for swimming many people go there through out the year,I went to 3 beaches out of maybe 10 that are scattered around the lake where i am located.I went to 2 school yards and 3 ball fields, and 2 state boat launches(public) so in 3 days I've only scratched the surface.

How did I decide to hunt there?...Truthfully I got alot of ideas of where to start hunting from Tnet posts although i knew i wasn't going to find the same things as everyone else in the posts,I did believe that it couldn't be too much different because lets face it old coins, relics, and jewelry are anywhere and everywhere(the proof is in this forum).I also spent a month researching this and surrounding areas on the internet, talked to people, and read some old papers and maps from the 1800's at the library,I read so many things like where old train stations, general stores, stagecoach stops, farms, and some of the first homes in the area where located. This only fueled the fire for more and more knowledge of the days of old.
Note: this area is literally built on sand it's everywhere so finds are easily discovered and probably lost easier than finding them,in the 1800's there were about 4-5 glass factories and it was said the sand was perfect for the factories use in making glass(no bottles found yet but a guy told me I'll find a bunch sooner or later).Digging here is pretty easy if you don't mind removing 10 or so pounds of rocks each hole.

Why did I think there was anything worth finding there?...I did not or will never have this mindset, that said I do alot of fishing in some pretty remote areas, sometimes i see things that may have potential this one spot i fish is a river that the bank is nothing but sand with farmland in every direction. The the river floods every spring and as the water rages I can visually see the bank eroding before my eyes,it's about a 10 foot drop from the bank edge to the water I know there is stuff to find there(I have yet to search here).I'd imagine i could score alot of cool stuff here I never see anybody detecting the river nor have i ever seen a soul md'ing the area where i live so as far as competition I have none,so now I'm thinking of this question what makes me feel like there is stuff worth finding to be had here? In retrospect I'm the only MD'r in this area that I know of and for now it's ALL MINE!!! ;)(thats if i can keep finding it lol)

Thanks again for all the comments, makes me feel I'm a legit member now ;D

Now that is how to prepare for a hunt. Way to go. As far as I can tell, you did everything the right way and it payed off big time. I think we can all learn alot from what you went through for your first hunt. In my book, you are a newbie no more.

You are going to find lots of nice stuff.

Daryl

Your off to a good start. Keep it up. Ron

Congrats on all the great finds.
That "claw" ring is something else,
I have never seen one like that.
Looks like a rino horn. Cool necklace too!

Smiles!

Congrats on your first hunt. That is pretty impressive. It's a thrill everytime you get a tone that you know is going to be good.

Thanks BDoo,the ring is a bit different,I'd never buy anything like that myself, the claw part is actually pretty sharp, and the necklace is my best(fav.) find of the lot.
