My first GPAA group hunt

Going on my very first GPAA group hunt this weekend (July 12-14) with the Iowa Chapter at a campground just south of Oskaloosa, yes I said Iowa lol. I'm not quite sure what to expect but hoping for some good gold.... If anyone has seen my post with pics in the gold panning section then you know I am at least capable of finding decent gold.....I will post my results if any upon return Sunday night or Monday morning....wish me luck.

The nice thing about the group outings is that you can really move a lot of materials. Of course the more you move the more chance you have of finding some good gold. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find.

I just now got home (Sunday July 14th, 1 am), about a 4 hour drive both ways...I had a lot of fun and met some great people, learned a lot and got to use several different items for gold recovery such as sluices of different designs, and a dredge. Sadly though just for a whole lot of the tiniest gold ever and about 15 flakes of "fair stuff" Not a whole lot to really speak of but still, I wasn't out for riches in gold but am richer in knowledge and friends of similar interests. I'm looking forward to meetings and the next outing where I'm told gold will be much much better....Crossing fingers.

Sounds great, and I will do the same when I get to San Diego some day.

In a similar way, a friend and coworker from Chicago is coming to CO to spend time with her 80-something year old parents this coming week and has asked me to take her prospecting someplace where her folks can chill out on the river bank in the shade to watch. I am going to take them to a nice park in central Denver that was the site of the very first settlement of Europeans in what is now the city of Denver...a settlement of miners of course. The place is Grant-Frontier Park. There's decent gold, partly due to false bedrock just 1-4 feet down.

Ok.... While you guys are going back and forth swing on down south and bring your gear. We can hit the washes here on the property and the state land that's right next to us. With a little luck I"ll have the road cut so we can drive to the wash instead of having to hike in.

Access to club claims around the country is the main reason. If you are new you can also spend time with more seasoned vets and get all the help you need.
