But I think I can top your one and done story
I had just found a new site. Returned the following day and started where I had left off the day before. Got a nice signal and just then the skies opened up pouring rain. Got the signal out of the hole and ran for cover with a clump of dirt in my hand. My only hole dug that day and it was an 1803 Draped Bust dime!

Don't let these other guys discourage you. It's supposed to happen that way every time you go metal detecting.
If you're not finding things like that within a few minutes then it's time to go home.
