A friend found this one today, rubbed smooth. The one side reminds me a little of a love token and there are also small words near the rim that we can't make out. The other side of the coin has an outline that I can't quite be sure of either. It is about the size of an LC but thinner. Much appreciated...

Re: Mystery Coin/Token?

interesting coin , is it copper ? most love tokens were silver :icon_scratch: hard to say .. hope you get an id

Re: Mystery Coin/Token?

Yes, copper. He said it rang in like an LC. I wasn't with him at this particular site.

1792! RARE to VERY RARE :o
Great Recovery Mark!
IP is The Man.
3 in two weeks :icon_scratch: that's an unusual number of recoveries for an
item as rare as the link states.
It seems that identical or similar items are often recovered
in 'strings' here :dontknow:
keep em comin

You sort of have to just ignore the rarity most times for them, at least in the sense of value because as you can see that one is EF and not worth a whole lot.

Even so it is a little strange seeing three posted in a row so fast.

Several times I've seen items posted in twos and threes within a week or so,
I think we saw a couple '16d mercs recently,
and those old tree coins.....

Re: Mystery Coin/Token?

Thanks once again Ironpatch, I think you have helped ID a few for me now and can't believe I missed seeing the other two posts :icon_scratch:. And now for the rest of the story...
This was found by a friend of one of the guys I hunt with. He decided he wanted to start detecting, just purchased the new T2 SE, and hunting a field site, this was his very first coin found :BangHead:.

It was my first 1700s coin, which I dug about 12 years ago so I have been familiar for a fairly long time.

Beat me to it, easy ID :icon_thumright: & dead on with price, worth next to nothing in UNC. Still an early find & IDable, so alls good :icon_thumright:

YEP! If IP remembers correctly, he ID'd one of these for me, that my brother in law found last spring in Mass.
