Found this button in Va, in a civil war camp that has produced buttons and coins dating back to colonial times. I have used every resource I know of including all of my reference books and can't find anything on this one. I feel it is from another country due to the eagle has a crown on it.
The eagle button if for size reference as it is standard 22-23 mm in size. You can see the button on top has anchor with rope around it with eagle with outstretched wings and head facing left with a crown on it. The button has a rope or chain border around it.
As you can see it is a one pc button with the backmark of "K." at the 11 oclock position "D." at the 1oclock position "*"'s at the 3 & 9 oclock positions and "marine" from the 7-5 oclock position.
I can't find any reference to this backmark and am really hoping this is 1800-1840 time period considering where it came from.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
