I don't have the expertise to answer the question, but I gotta say, that's an awesome find! Congrats!

18th century 1/2 pounder swivel gun; dates from after 1725, probably later as it has shoulders at the trunnions. There might be marks either on the top of the barrel or on the faces of the trunnions- they are the little arms which are sticking out.

Absolute banner find... truly incredible that sucker has not been found until now.
Well done is an understatement.

Stellar... and if i were you i would go back and search the area like a rabid squirrel on a nut hunt.

We found this cannon in a river and we hope to identify it, is it civil war era or napoleonic? Was it in a battle or on a merchant ship, as yet there are no markings but im waiting for the FLO to get in touch so i dont want to clean it too much, any help will be appreciated

Thank you so much for the info, it certainly looks like a swivel cannon, i will do some research with this lead

Freakin awesome! Theres gold coins and whatever all over this site, but this is by far my favorite post that I've seen. Very nice work! Obviously, no need to get too specific, but what part of the country are you in assuming you're in the US?
Thank you so much We are in the UK and it was found in sheffield
