NEVER THOUGHT I'D DIG ONE IN DENVER
Went back to the site that I dug the baggage claims, could hardly recognize it. They have been moving literally tons of dirt, and it didn't look too promising. The first hit was a beautiful pull tab, thought about cleaning, but didn't want to hurt the value in any way. (Any tips on cleaning would be appreciated) Next was a nice Merc, a 1944-D. Started to get a little frustrated. I'd dig a zinc penny in an area that had been dug down ten feet or so, then see a nice old glass fragment on the surface. There was really no methodical way to detect, just hit or miss. After an hour of walking around aimlessly, I got a fluctuating "zinc penny-penny dime" signal on the Whites, and looked down at the ground. A small round silver object was lying on the surface. At first I thought that it was a religious medallion, it was so tiny. Then I saw the eagle! Could have seen my happy dance from Google Earth! It's my first Capped Bust anything, something that is pretty unusual to find out here in Denver. It wasn't even on my wish list, the only way I thought I'd ever dig one was to go back east and hunt. Happy, happy, Carl!
