Is anyone with a mini having problems with a bunch of pepples clogging up the gold box? depending on the material im running, it just gets packed inside the box and im worried i ts not letting the gold get in there

Also you could just clean it out and reset in just a couple minutes if you are worried. Trust your tool, get the gold!

The Bazooka Super mini is a great little sluice box. I borrowed one last year and used it quite a bit. It was that lil box that convinced me to purchase a bigger model. Before that I had never heard of the Bazooka gold trap and in general tended to stay away from experimental prospecting tools lol. The best thing about the super mini (besides its excellent ability to catch small gold) is the fact that I can fit it, a pan, pick, trowel into a day pack and still have room for my lunch and a jacket. Thanks for the post. I will be interested in hearing how you do when you get the chance to use it on some better ground.

When I had borrowed my friends Bazooka mini I didn't have a lot of faith in it either. So I test panned the material coming out the down stream end many, many times. I even set up a second sluice under and after the thing once and can say that I did not even one spec of gold in any of the tailings. But don't take my word for it try it yourself its a good box and I am sure that you will will learn to trust it as I have. Good Luck

twistedheat. I have the Super Mini. I have no problem abusing it. I shovel directly into and not carefully just big heaping piles of all types of dirt. The fluid bed fills up quickly and I clean it out after about the equivalence of 3/4 of a bucket load. It probably does not need it that often but 'm a little spastic about seeing results. The cleanout will have all kinds of pebbles in it. That is OK because at the bottom of the pan will be some very very small fine gold along with all other sizes. The grizzlies can get plugged with small rocks but i just keep my crevice tool close by and rake them out. I have never found any gold in the tailings to date and I constantly force feed the thing until it chokes ( not the recommended rate of feed or flow). I can pan quickly and get a good retention of gold in the pan and sometimes I pan all day because I like panning, but for production your BGT will do better for you. I found that if I do a quick classify afterwards instead of before it is a much quicker process. No need to run a screen on it. That just slows it down. Good Luck with your new sluice. If the pebbles are not totally blocking off the chamber restricting the flow of water and material into the fluid bed it shouldn't be an issue. The only time you need to clean out the box is if it becomes totally compacted with black sand. I only had this happen once but its easy to tell when it happens. Occasionally if you poke your finger into the fluid bed and press down on the material inside. Unless the material feels compacted and so firm its difficult to press down the fluid bed is good to go. The pebbles will be pushed up and out by the heavies.

Here is a pic after I cleared most of the rocks off and pulled the super mini out of the river. I had shoveled two quick giant scoops into it that had rocks up to fist sized. Notice the flake on the skid plate. No need to classify before. I classify it through a 12 and 20 stacked afterward. Makes for easy panning.

very good advice...panning is always more effective and efficient with well classified material! I do 12/20/50 myself.
