New coinshooting program snags a '41 Merc.

Hey guys. I went out today for about an hour with the French girl. Had to try out some new settings. I was impressed. So I dug this hole right here, right?

...and up pops this little beauty, about 5 or 6 inches down.

That was the only silver I dug, but with these settings, almost every single hole I dug had a coin in it, with the exception of one pulltab. Did I mention that I was impressed? Well I was...

If anyone is interested in trying it out, here are the settings. It's actually two identical programs. One at 8kHz and one at 4kHz for checking for bottle caps. Here's the setup:

Disc: 1
Expert- Tones: Full
Sensitivity: 85
Expert- TX Power: 3
Freq.: 7.9
Iron Volume: 0
Reactivity: 2
Expert- Silencer: 0
Audio Response: 3
Expert- Audio Overload: 1
Notch: 0-55, 97-99

Ground Notch: 85-90
(I set my ground balance to 83 in manual at this particular site. Use whatever works for you.)

Also, turn ID Norm to OFF if you have it on.

Now save this program in a free slot.

Now change the frequency to 4kHz and change the notch to 0-44, 97-99 and save this in the next slot down.

Now any time you hit on a good signal, switch to the 4kHz program and watch the numbers on the screen. If they go up, it's probably a bottle cap. If they go down, it's time to dig.

And as always, feedback is welcome.

Ok, now to continue my story...
So I'm out there for about an hour and find some silver. The beast is satisfied...for now. So I pack up my things and head back to the house. And what, perchance, should be waiting for me when I get home? It's my new Vance Muffs I ordered a few days ago. Like they couldn't have arrived BEFORE I went out metal detecting... oh well, there's always next time.

If those are the type holes you dig, you should be shot in the back of the head.:BangHead: Looks like this area will be off limits soon because of your inexperience at coin recovery. Maybe you can put dirt on a plastic cloth for replacing it all back in the hole.

No need to be rude, bro. And I assure you, I fill in my holes completely. I try to make it look as clean as possible. But I will admit that while I was out there, I was thinking I wish I did have a bandana on me just for that specific purpose. So yeah, don't get all holier-than-thou with me. If you don't like something I post then move along.

What an ass.....I've seen volleyball players do way worse. Shot in the head......Get some help, sandman.

Nice job sniffing out the silver. I am sure you had no problem making that small hole look as good as new. Let us know what you think of the new headphones.

According to my 1998 Red Book of US Coins, that dime is worth 50 cents to $15 dollars.I know:notworthy: need to get me a new Red book of US coins:icon_thumleft: Good day of huntin in my book when you find silver.

Thank you for the programs, I will certianly give them a try!

cool find and I like the program . Im no coinshooter for sure but I need to start switching to 4 kh and checking more of my targets.

I run almost the same program but only notch 0-25. The deus runs great at sens 83-85 in park sites drop it down to 80 if falsing and tiny bits of foil are setting her off. I run this way almost exclusively now but go up one frequency when keeping the door open for the yellow stuff

You should add these programs to the stickie program post above, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I appreciate it.

Oh, and for mister sandy snatch, í went back out to that site today, the one you said would be closed soon. I took a few pics of the godawful mess I made. Check it out...

And this time, I didn't score any silver. I did score me a copper ring though, about fifteen feet from where the dime was. And you should see the mess I made... I used a backhoe this time.

Backhoe,I had to laugh when I read that,my nephew is starting to get into metal detecting and I've been letting him use my 2200,up until this week I only had 1 pinpointer and I knew I wasn't going without one so we went metal detecting in a local park and I look back and my nephew has this huge hole dug and I hollered at him "deep, you want me to go get the backhoe".
Nice find by the way.

Oh, and I used the Vance Muffs exclusively today. They are tight (the springiness of the headband) meaning they push against your ears tightly. At first, I figured this might be a problem. But after a while, I had all but forgotten they were on my head - the same head certain people feel should have a bullet put through it.

But anyway, if you expect to hear anything, even from five feet away, forget it. These things really block the sound. Figured they would come in handy if I ever go detecting with sandman. That way, I ain't gotta hear none of that dumb s**t.

But yeah. Best headphones ever in my book. Quality stuff for sure.

Thanks, dugndeep. Yeah its always cool to see young people take an interest in this hobby. I started when I was in my twenties. Not really sure why I took an interest. Maybe it was just to get me out of the house, because I was just starting to learn what marriage was all about. Lol.

Nice post and programs, love the ring....

Hole was fine to me, it is how you leave it that matters.

Vance muffs are the best! I love mine, had them for awhile and will never wear anything else.....

That is a pretty cool ring. I was using the Gray Ghosts XP headphones and I didn't like them. It made the sounds come out muffled. I prefer using my 1/8" WS4 adapter and a 1/8" plug cord with my NDT headphones. I was going to sell my Deus a few weeks ago, but I just can't bring myself to part with it.

Thanks. Yeah I was thinking about getting the Gray Ghosts at first, but I saw more than a few negative reviews and decided against them. The Vance Muffs are real nice and the sound quality is top notch, though I really have nothing to compare them with.

I hear great things about the Vance headphones. A friend of mine has them and he really likes them. When I got my Deus last Oct, I had a hard time dropping another $150 on new headphones too. So I got the $20 WS4 adapter plate and made a housing for it.

I did a post on how I made it here http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/deus/481002-my-deus-ws4-universal-puck-adapter.html

I then cut the cord on some Whites headphones I had and put a 1/8" adapter on it. I can also use my Grey Ghost headphones with a 1/8-1/4 adapter... but I prefer the Whites. I have 100's of hours on them and I love the setup. When Its time for some new headphones, maybe I'll spring for the Vance... but I really like being able to velcro the puck on the side of any set of headphones I want.

I emailed XP and told them they should make something like the adapter housing I made. They actually emailed back. Hopefully they do make it... I thought about getting the wrist band holder and cutting the straps off and putting velcro on the back of it, but it looked much more bulky. We really just need a refined case that the ws4 adapter plate will sit in.

This was just my solution so I didnt have to spend more money last fall. Didn't mean to steer your post off laidback4sho, I just saw people discussing their headphone options.
