ok, so I have been lurking for about a week, I was reading about all this cool stuff you guys are finding. Figured hell why not try it. So went to radio shack and got the last 3300 that they had since, well im in law school and broke. Anyway went to the park and dug this up after about 20 min.(about 8 inches deep) O and i also found 7 cents. Anyway I took it to a local store and it is real it is 14k gold and the diamonds on the sides are real. With luck it will probly pay for the detector which makes this a free thing to do. Sorry my phone takes bad pics.

well OK, so i guess Christmas gift for the niece, cause went to a pawn shop today and apparently they buy rings by weigh or whatever. Guy says wow cool that you found it ill give you $10.00. Now I'm no expert by any means but the lady at the jewelry store said its worth between $200-$300. Now please keep in mind when reading this that I have never been in a pawn shop until about 2 hours ago. Is this how these places work?
Maybe someone with a little more experience can give me some guidance here on how these places work. I am new to this but I would hope that in the event that I would find say a large diamond ring or something. I could sell it for some money. I don't know. where do you guys who live on the beach sell the things that you find?
Any way it was really cool to find this and to the the 5 year old im giving it to it will be cool even if its only worth 10 bux.

Pawn shops are out to rip people off, especially when it comes to jewelry. They will only pay you for the gold content, so a ring is only worth the weight of the gold in it. Do not be discouraged, your ring is worth a lot more than $10. If you want to get rid of it I will give you $20.

The 5 year old will cherish it for life and remember a special uncle who gave it to her. She will tell all her friends and children how you found it, the story will last for generations.
The uncle will have a great memory of the really cool find and giving it to a very special little girl.
As for the pawn shop.......I really need to learn how to spell that raspberry sound!! What a rip off, jerk!
I would try a regular jewler instead of a pawn shop. But giving it away will mean more in the long run.
Keep digging and have fun doing it.
I'd give you $50.

Excellent start xd and Welcome....You knocked one off your list that some of us here are still waiting for....By the way....How about Camp David???

Looks like amethyst with small diamonds. They usually retail from $ 295 to $ 350

Great job now go find the customer and your paid for your detector.

Congrats to you

Well all I can say is that I wish my first gold ring were that easy. I spent all afternoon that day in a local park digging clad and enough pulltabs to coat the bed of my truck. But that was 1993 and I was a newbie detectorist and determined. Funny thing is, I'd do it all over again...

Congrats.

If you are really looking to sell it you should try Ebay. That seems to be the best place to sell jewelry. Great find and Good Luck!

Eric

PS ... I am a bit jealous...that is a really nice ring!

where are you going to law school?

VERY nice first find, especially that quick!!! Now you are hooked....:) Congrats!!! I agree with country girl...give it to your niece, she'd love it and it would mean alot to her. If you decide to sell it, I agree with Iowa Hunter...post it on EBAY, you;ll get more for it there. Pawn shops are a rip off...stay clear of them unless you are desparate and then stay away from them anyway, a jeweler will give you an honest appraisal (at least reputable ones will) however they won't pay you what it is worth...they need to make a profit as well. Cut out the middle men and sell it on EBAY, you;ll get close to appraised value there and theres always a chance two people will love it and absolutely HAVE to have it and get in a major bidding war for it..:):):)
Regardless of what you do with it, take some clearer pictures of it and catalog all your finds so you can look back at them, for with the start you made, I'm sure many more great finds are coming your way.
Welcome to a totally awesome hobby..it will drive you nuts and fill you with joy and give you hours of pleasure and enjoyment, just be careful...it can be VERY, VERY, VERY addicting and you have a bar exam to study for...:):)

Yeah, the last time I went to sell gold scrap at a pawn shop they offered me $5 a gram. RIP. So I ebay'ed it. You found a very nice ring, just keep it till gold gets to $1000 a oz.
