New Member could use a little help

Finally found a place where people are as ate up with it as i am!! I am from AR but have been implanted into nw Fl. Back home to hunt rocks you walked out your front door. However, down here I'm having a very difficult time finding a place for myself and a couple of my kids to hunt. Not asking anyone to give there hot spot just maybe point me in the right direction for nw FL or s AL. Thanks for the help.

I'm from Florida and moved here to AR. Florida is good for seashells, shark's teeth and fossil shells, not so hot in the rock department. I did know this guy who probed near the Hillsborough River near Tampa and found some great spearpoints, but that's a ways from you. But there's got to be some spots near you, hopefully a member or two here can help you out. Good luck.

What part of Nw Fla are you in?? Just moved from there after 15 years, I might be able to help you out...the only ''rocks" in Nw Fl are chert and limestone, maybe some agatized coral, unless it was transported from somewhere else

I am in okaloosa county in the extreme north part our farm borders al. Scotto if you ever run out of places to go drop me a line I could help point you in some good directions in that state.

head a little south if you have a small boat and hit Choctawhatchee bay....look for high cliffs with Deciduous trees and palmettos on them. keep your eyes peeled for oyster shells eroding out of the bank, that will be a site...not very good near the pine forests..walk the shoreline at low tide, espescially after a winter storm. Stuff is difficult to find, because almost every bit of chert, came from further up north and just about every flake was used for something. you may hit a site and find pot sherds and chert all over one day, go back a few days later and nothing until the next storm ...any of the rivers and creeks have great stuff in them too

I was born in Ft. Walton Bch. There are a lot of artifacts to be found and it will be different than how you searched in Ar. I have pottery and some nice Marion points from the bay and quite a few sites were used for thousands of years so you'll find archaic stuff like Bolens with woodland points such as Hernandos.
Here is a link to a great website with mostly Fla. and Ga. collectors. I think you will find them very knowledgeable, and friendly with a few grumps! Good luck!

Just be careful, Florida changed the law, it is illegal to take artifacts from state and federal land......I moved back home to Florida from Missouri where I point hunted for over 20 years only to find it is now illegal to pick up a point on state or federal land, it is even illigal to pick it up from a creek or river. To protect my collection I have from 20 years pf collecting in the
Midwest, I gave up point hunting here and took up metal detecting....

That is the same in Arkansas as far as the government land goes. However if you get caught digging it goes to a whole diffrent level they can hit you with destruction of government property they say.

I'm sure its all changed, I was there in the early 60's. Man I'm getting old. Glad your taking the kids, hope you do well. Thanks I was just talking to my wife's great uncle about the niceville area.

north boundry along Yellow Creek. When you say north boundry are you talking about the yellow river at the al fl state line or is there a creek named yellow creek around niceville. The sight you turned me on to is saying the reg. is closed.

Yup, best to get on private property to hunt.

I remember Yellow Creek as a boundry of Eglin but it may also be a state boundry further north . I bet it's all off limits anyway as so much has changed. I don't know why the web site would be closed but maybe all the butt kissers left for the other hallowed site so it shut down!
Private proerty is probably your best bet so get out and make a bunch of new friends!
