[Oberlausitz]

Hello, I wanted to briefly introduce myself. My name is Johannes and I come from East Germany, the former GDR. The region here is called "Oberlausitz," hence my name. I'm 31 years old and would like to get back to metal detecting more often this year. My goal is to keep a kind of search log here to document the year. Unfortunately, the texts will be from Google Translate, which is better than my English. Perhaps I'll post some of my finds from the last few years in the next few days. I don't consider myself a former citizen of the GDR; the state no longer existed when I was born. But I certainly feel like an East German; there's definitely a different mentality here than in the western states. Political views are also generally different, much like the differences between the northern and southern states in the USA.

Battlefields aren't really my thing. I don't want to walk over fallen soldiers who gave their lives. Besides, I have a healthy respect for unexploded ordnance. Of course, you do make the occasional find. For example, I found a War Merit Cross and an Luftwaffe belt buckle in a completely ordinary field. Otherwise, I'm a fan of older things, silver coins, medieval items, and so on.

WELCOME TO A VERY FINE FORUM> I would like to see more of your finds but I also would like for you to BE VERY careful over there. I BET THERE IS A LOT OF UNEXPLODED ORDANCE OVER THERE that could be very DANGEROUS to you and anyone else that digs it up !!!

Hi there Oberlausitz. I haven't been on the site in a while due to moving from the United State And I just so happen to be in the Oberpflaz region now, not far from you.

Hope the laws for your region haven't been too restrictive. It's been a bit difficult getting out and doing much detecting here due to the language barrier I have, but luckily I get out with some fellow local detectorist friends I have made when they have the availability.
