A new road is being built in my town and it cuts through some of my better hunting grounds. I'm not sure how to hunt any such mess as this.

Any tips on how I should hunt this construction is much appreciated. I gave it a few minutes today and came out with a couple of scrapers.

rusty get out as soon as it rains and take barry with
hopefully it'll rain before they put down the asphalt

I think it'll be awhile before its paved. They just started working on it this past summer. They started planning the road in 1981 and say it'll take 5 years to complete. Who knows? It may be paved by Monday.

Well with any luck you got that hard down pour from us last night. I havent seen everything flooded like that in a yr. Everything looks good except the last one. Its kinda iffy as it could go either way. Nice hunt man!

hey nc just like larson said go back after every rain.id go down one side for awhile than go down the middle than go to the other side.id bring my detector along and kill two birds with one stone good luck and hh

ps i like to stop alot and scan 360 degrees round me.

Nice I would keep up with where the put the top soil but it sounds like your already finding the facts ()

I would go after a rain for sure. Pay close attention to the areas where the cut is closer to the top soils. Be careful of the laws , because it is probably state land now.

For some reason I'm thinking you're going to come across a nice axe in there somewhere.. Good luck and as jamey said remember to look up and around once in awhile sometimes you may walk right past big things trying to pay attention to small objects

Let the Hunt Begin! :icon_thumleft: I would especially check the areas where the road intercepts any water way or drainage. Good Luck in your hunting.

Thanks fellas!! Gator, I have that axe feeling also. It rained today but I was in VA. Hunting my island. I'm going to hit the road again in a few hours. Rock, the last piece was really the only one worth picking up. I'm hoping to find it's mate stone. As far as the state guys... So far, I walk by them, they walk by me. I'm not doing any wrong. We need to remember how innocent our hobby is. I'm really a fan of Dr. King. Dr. King was about following God's law, even if it meant bending or flat out breaking man's law. Had a pretty good day at the island today!!

Dang why didnt i think of that? You brought a guard bull to keep others out while your gone brilliant.

Sorry to hear about your huntin grounds there NC!!! First look around all of the hot spots you know of. DEF look through the topsoil there and sum of the subsoil.. Look over the edges and down to the ditch line because that's where the surface dirt will be.. GOOD LUCK AND HH....

If they are continuing the road and clearing new areas, try to get in there right after they cut the trees and move them out, usually the first light grading is the best time.

He followed me home. Mom says I can keep him as long as I water him and feed him. Lol! I saw this thing in the woods as I headed down to the lake. I drove on a few feet and thought to my self.... What the hell did I just see?? I had to back up and take the old fellas picture. We don't see many long horn bulls around here. I started to ride him.... My better judgement set it.

It's always sad to see old hunting grounds ruined, but think of the possible caches, burial items and things below the plow zone that will get unearthed.

My advice is hit it all, and hit it often, once they're finished, it's gone. GL.

rusty that stuff on your right hand in that first image sure looks gross hahaha

Lol! That was at the lake over the weekend. Water levels are falling slowly.

You have to scratch through the silt to get artifacts.

NC, get a fourwheeler and ride real slow and look. (if you wont get in trouble). We have done that before and found some good things on long stretches of roads. Use a long stick to flip over and check rocks so you don't have to keep getting on and off.....

That's a good idea!! I haven't even started my 4 wheeler in over a year. I'm scared I'll find my next mechanical project when I try to start it. I'd better let the ground dry a little. I don't want to damage the work that they have done. I can't see any reason for trouble as long as I'm respectful. Thanks for the idea. That one is as good as done!!!
